I feel like I haven't witnessed the release of a true AAA game the likes of MGS4 or Halo3 for around 8 months (when Fallout 3 came out). Not only that, but I don't even like Fallout 3 that much and I hesitate to call it a AAA video-game. So, it's been at least 3/4 of a year since a AAA game came out! Not only that, but I doubt I'll see a AAA game arrive on store shelves again until this upcoming holiday season. After all, the AAA games of the future will, in all liklihood, be announced at E3 next month, meaning they probably will not arrive soon afterwards. Am I the only one who is frustrated about this? Though, if someone can think of a killer, "AAA"game that is coming out soon which I have not thought of, I'd love to know.

I'm not, I have enough games at the moment. But Infamous is coming very soon and it has had a couple of AAA reviews. And there will be a ton of AAA games over the holiday season.

Maybe you mean a killer app instead of AAA? You didn't mention Gears of Wars 2, I found it to be pretty good. Looks like you'll to wait until the holiday season to what you're looking for. There's plenty of good games that should keep you entertained, killer apps don't come out very often you should know this.

Well, I think I should clarify what I think is a AAA game. I believe a AAA game is virtually always one whose average review score is very near to 95 or above. Gears of War 2 does satisfy that criteria, but it came out in early November, about a week after Fallout 3. Those games each came out last holiday season and now, like I wrote before, I'm probably going to have to wait until next holiday season to see the release of some new AAA games. Also, I don't think a AAA game always has to be a killer app. Just look at Wii Sports. Totally a killer app for the Wii but by no means is it a AAA game, at least by traditional standards/my definition of a AAA game.

Yea, there are definitely some good games out/coming out soon. To name a few: inFamous, Killzone 2, and Street Fighter IV. Yet, these are all more like AA or just A games. Obviously, though, I think these would not be enjoyed as much as an upcoming AAA game, such as Starcraft II or Final Fantasy XIII. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if AAA games are now bound to only be released during a short window of time (the holiday season) considering the incredible growth and potential of the casual gaming market, which seems perfectly contented with games that are fun, social, but by no means require the time, energy, or money put into a AAA game.

I suspect you might be hanging on until Christmas for those. Whether it's just the development cycle at the moment or something to do with the economy but the big guns are definately holding back. Christmas will see Modern Warfare 2, Starcraft, Gran Turismo 5, God of war 3.... there's big list.....

I have plenty of "AAA" games to play. You have a personal problem due to your own preferences.

Why do you care if the game is AAA. This whole idea of every game worth playing has to be a AAA is relatively new to the gaming world and has been started by fanboys. As you can see there are some AAA games that you don't really like because they don't fit your taste, would it really be that bad to play a game that scored above an 80? I know this post isn't going to change anyone's minds but I feel that a lot of gamers are going to miss out on some really fun games just because a reviewer considered it too much of a clone of another game (that you may never even have played). Maybe I'm just biased cause I started playing videogames before the age of instant reviews and we just either guessed at which games looked good while in the store, or found someone else who had already taken that risk and played it.

So instead why don't you just say what you are looking for in a game and I bet we could direct you better from that information.

From my understanding, the Summer months are often dried up, so best luck to finding anything close to triple-A over the hundred-degree heat..

Major Blockbusters only come like once a year or so on a given system, and anywhere from 2 to 5 years between sequels. And someone else said it, the April to August stretch of time usually sucks for releases. Besides, I'm happy with relatively new fair like Star Ocean 4, and I have old classics to play through again like the Metal Gear Solid series, and such. Think of this as catch up time for all of the amazing games you can't play due to school/work and the constant barrage of other releases.

You have a weird view of things, it seems like you go by what reviewers say rather than what you feel. Anyway RE5 was one of the best games I have played in a while.dvader654
I agree. I've had wayyyy more fun with Saints Row 2 than GTA 4 ever could provide me. Don't just be spoonfed by reviewers (because they aren't always right).

MGS4 is at 94%. so is Halo 3 and Fallout 3 is averaging 93%.

Guess what? They aren't AAA under your own criteria for an AAA game.

Like vader and SemiMaster said before, stop paying attention to averages and review scores. Why are you letting someone else tell you what an AAA or an AA game is. While you were starving yourself for an AAA game, I played RE5, KZ2 and Flower, ALL three of them AAA games for me. RE5 is the front runner for GOTY this year, but it averages at around 85% well below KZ2's 9.1 and two points lower than Flower. I haven't played SF4, but it is averaging 94% and the official thread in GGD is still going strong three months after its release. Ask anyone in that thread and they would tell you its an AAA game.

I understand some people set very high standards for their true generation defining games, but calling games like SFIV, KZ2 and others AA or A games is not going to impress anyone. Especially when you didn't even mention the only game that averaged over 95% besides GTA4 last year..... hint, it wasn't MGS4 or Fallout 3, but a little game called LittleBigPlanet.

There are many games out there which have an average score below 90 or so which I enjoy. I never said otherwise. Also, I did refer to Fallout 3 as a AAA game (at one point I even said it was the most recent AAA game I could remember). Not only that, but I never said a AAA game absolutely had to have an average review score of 95 or above. What I wrote is this: "a AAA game is virtually always one whose average review score is very near to 95 or above". This means that the games I consider to be AAA tend to have very high average scores.

SolidSnake - According to Metacritic, the average score for Halo 3 as well as MGS4 is 94 while that of Fallout 3 (on Xbox 360) is 93. As these numbers are, in fact, "very near to 95", they do satisfy my criteria for a AAA game. I understand that my definition of a AAA game may be different than others, but I never said my idea of AAA games are the only ones I play, I basically just stated that I want one right now more than usual. Jeez...

Okay. I read your post wrong. Sorry.

But my point still stands, SFIV, RE5 and KZ2 are all AAA games for most gamers.

No, I've got plenty to catch up with and I'm already considering buying two games that scored below the critics reviews of 80% in a few hours, well below 80%, but I want to play them since they look and sound like a lot of fun. And I'm in the mood for fun instead of eye candy.
