So I seem to have found my self in a bad situation. Most games are just not interesting me anymore no matter how hard I try to like them. I just can't finish them and am not having too much fun with them. I would much rather play some quick multiplayer games or co op with a friend but never start up a new game by myself. During the school year I'd say that i'm very much a casual gamer. With it being summer right now I've found myself still playing casuallly. I find multiplayer interaction more engaging then single player. Unless it has a good story.

I'm not sure if casual gamer is the right way to describe myself as I do play games a lot and I am studying a degree to take me into the industry. I will admit I am a little bit annoyed at all of the trash out there in the market at the moment I'm sure a lot of you will also agree on this - you only have to look at Nintendo and how they have changed over the years. I know companies will make a lot more money by appealing to a larger audience but my god, we really don't need another Baby Sitting Party 10 and whatnot..

Also there seems to be a trend now where companies will find a game that "works" and mass produce similar titles because they kind of know it's tried and tested. It was only the other day I was looking at my gamecube games thinking to myself how awesome EVERY ONE of those I had were and how each of them were really different from eachother ... then I look at my xbox collection and some are terrible (I buy a lot of games!) and only a few true masterpieces. I honestly think that the industry is TOO big right now which can of course mean good funding, but you do not need a huge amount of money to come up with an original title. I have found myself putting down games only after an hour or 2 of playing either because they bored me to death or too generic and reminded me too much of another title..

I feel the same way as TC. I have a ton of games on my backlog, but the only games I will play is if I'm playing with friends. A had a moment of weakness last week and finished Mafia 2 in about two days :P but otherwise I'm reluctant to start any single player games.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself casual now, but just a lot pickier. I've got time in the summer to play games, but I always feel like I should be writing and making use of that time, so it always hangs over my head when I ever feel like starting up any game.

Somewhat though i still like to play a good game. Games just don't hold my attention as much as they used to so my standards have raised.

Not me. I will say though that I have "casual spells" which last for a few days, and I just play multiplayer on my favourite games and whatnot. But after a few days I am always wanting to start a new game, either a campaign I haven't played for a while or a brand new game. I don't have too many games on my backlog (well I have a few), and I am looking forward to MANY games this fall, including the very close up and coming Driver: San Francisco and Gears of War 3. I love gaming, always have done and I am pretty sure I always will :D.

I am just a casual gamer these days, i have spent more hours on my gameboy color, then i ever did on my ps3 just cause pokemon yellow is a longer game then something like dead space or residents evil 5 or Metal Gear Solid 4 or final fantasy 13 and had alot more replayablity. Also I am a serious student who will be playing SWTOR on weekends and a bit of SC2 and WC3. LOL diablo 3 will prolly come around xmas so it will be awesome game after school finals.

yeah i feel the same way dude, games are losing their charm nowadays and any tedius game is simply unfinishable nowadays, perhaps you should look for something less tedius and more pick up and play, single player games arent as rewarding nowadays :/. i think if the gaming industry doesn't improve an a few more years then i'm going to stop modern gaming completely. all games seem to be nowadays are shooters and a few bland wrpgs

That's a good thing! It shows that you aren't addicted to video games! :) On Topic: I'm starting to have the same thing too. I rather get bored of video games at some point then become an video game addict.

Hmm, Well it does seem like quite a few people share my same thoughts. I recently bought GTA4 and Borderlands with a free 40 dollar gift card and lets say I didn't get my money's worth simply because my lack of enthusiasm with them.

I have been disapointed with many new games but with older games usually pretty cheap I just buy them. Nothing wrong or casual about multiplayer games.

How does that make you casual? it just means your taste is changing more than likely because its summer and you have less time to game? I wish we could drop these tags which are very poorly defined (hardcore and casual).

Depends on how you mean it.

At heart,i'll always be hardcore, thank you.

You love games, you read, talk, and think about them, you're hardcore.

Never,ever,ever say that vulgar word.

"Casual"

I don't know about casual, but I've found myself drifiting towards more indie games and smaller scale titles. All the big budget titles just started to feel the same. With millions of dollars on the line with each release the large studios just can't afford to take the risks that indie devs can, thus less and less innovations in big name titles.

During the school year im usually casual only playing games every once in awhile. I can tell it'll be the same when i go to college prob only playing multiplayer games with ppl on campus. When summer comes, I become a hardcore gamer again. Winter break is also when hardcore persona kicks in temporarily.

I just pre-ordered Deus Ex: Human Revolution on top of a bunch of other AAA titles..so you can guess how casual I even am. Sometimes I pop the occasional XBLA puzzle game on and play a bit..but mostly I avoid it.

I'm turning to the 3DS after simply having a lack of time to sink my teeth into a lot of video games (as a hard working student). I guess I would consider that turning casual from a man who used to be a console and computer nut. 8)

I wouldn't say I've turned into a 'casual' gamer but I've hardly played any games over the past few months. The break has been nice but I'm ready to start playing again once the big releases start rolling out in the coming months.

Just about sums what I needed to say.

I didn't game much this year but I know that will change when I get Deus Ex and Uncharted 3 :D

One of my main complaints is that devs focus on multiplayer instead of singleplayer. Even games that do not need multiplayer have it :|

When it comes to time-played, I definitely PLAY casually... but a "casual gamer" is something different from playing games casually due to limited free time.

I stopped gaming after Resident Evil 4 dropped... I was strictly playing my old games from whatever year that was to January 2008, when I got a 360 soley for GTA IV & Resident Evil 5(boy did that let me down).

A good break is what you need. I've been playing Red Dead ever since it dropped and love it so much and with the resurgence of the fighting game genre, I have alot on my plate to play.

I'm just waiting for the great single player games to release because I've been mostly playing multiplayer(Reach, RDR, MK9) games.. mostly.

I started feeling this way in april. then L.a noire came out, loved it and beat it. then in june went back to being uninterested!!!

I usually get this way in the summer though cause theres barely any games coming out, and no sports on so im usually doing other stuff. but once fall hits im usually back to gaming.

But today i have a feeling ill be out of my slumop when i go get Deus Ex: HR and maybe pick up a cheap copy of FarCry2(never played) :D

Not a casual gamer per se, but I've definitely fallen out of favor with mainstream hardcore gaming.

Practically all the games I can find the motivation for these days are Nintendo 1st party games and indie games.

---

The same with TV.

I'm a grown adult, but I find myself watching more cartoons than rehashed dramas.

---

I guess it's an issue with seriousness... I'm sick and tired of media that takes itself too seriously.

---

I play games to have FUN and relax after a hard day at work.

In my opinion, that's what all video games should prioritize.

Yup. Seen it all done it all before syndrome. I have it too. Here's some ideas to get your gaming mojo back: 1. Go simple-- play fast, action based casuals till the desire for something more complex comes back 2. No sequels or franchises. try an IP you've not tried before. 2a. "dirty sequels" -- buy the fourth or fifth version of a game you've not played 1,2,3 or 4 of. 3. Go retro. Seriously. Download yourself Sonic 1. Come back when you've got all 7 chaos emeralds ;-) 4. walk into a game store (or steam...) and buy something totally random, off-topic, and out of the charts. 5. Play dynasty warriors. Seriously. at last but not least.... always play on the hardest available difficultly settings from day 1.

I would say so, I feel I am.

An example not restricted to just this genre but I have hardly been playing rts games this year, the genre has been stagnant for a while and don't feel I can dedicate anymore time/focus into it or am as interested as before in those games. Don't intend to buy any new ones simply because my attentions lie elsewhere, got more things going on in life and don't have a lot of free time.

In general plaing games a lot less and currently feeling a bit disillusioned with gaming also, from recent games to the direction of some other stuff.

There is more quantity than quality out there.

I feel ya.

Now instead just playing games that I can relax to, more about fun than anything and less consuming. Having said that I'll still enjoy a deep game and have Deus Ex Human Revolution pre-ordered so not completely done with gaming just a lot less than before.

Casual gamer? Gamers are gamers. As for playing....I had slowed down mostly due to my TV being in use all the time but I've recently been making up for lost time and hitting games I never got around to playing.
