I plan on buying my first one in about a week (I wasn't interested in gaming last gen), so I was wondering, does anyone else plan on getting a PS2 this month or in 2010?

Looks likely. My PS2 broke about 3 years ago and since PS3 is no longer BC I can see myself buying a PS2 considering I still have all my PS2 games which are collecting dust.
No, but have alot of fun with it! :D
Ahh, the memories ^_^

Thanks haha. Any recommendations for the PS2?
It's very possible. Or, since I now have a job, I might save up and buy a BC PS3 so that I can play current and last-gen games. But I might get a 360 first, once I hear how the new chips are doing.muthsera666
I honestly don't think you should spend the extra money for a BC PS3. Since the PS3 is older, it has a higher change of getting YLOD. But also, by playing PS2 games on it, you are going to be wearing out the PS3s player. I'd rather spend the money get a PS2. And I dont think you should get a 360, they RROD way too often, and I honestly don't see much appeal in their games.

Everything this dude said, plus Final Fantasy X, Dark Cloud 1&2, Star Wars Battlefront II, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Kingdom Hearts 1&2.

same here. My PS2 is dying a bit, and I'd love to use it as an excuse to splash the cash on a BC PS3 if i can find one, but I might just get a new PS2.
I already have one :)slimline silver.was going to get rid of it when i got my PS3 but can't play PS2 games on my PS3. PS2 rocks
Definitely. My birthday is January 4 and I'll be 14, which means I can work at Kroger's as a bag-boy(minimum wage FTW!!!!) I'll be buying games and systems galore. Ok, not systems galore, but I will get a PS2, DS, and possibly more.

I guess you do have a point about just getting a PS2. They aren't much money, and they'd likely hold up better and longer. However, I disagree on the Xbox part. I love my original Xbox, and I'm a big defender of Microsoft, though I try not to descend to the level of fanboyism. There's a new chip either in the works or already out that looks to finally resolve most of the RRoD problems. And there are a lot of Xbox games that I would love to play. Not to mention that the Xbox controller is far superior to the PlayStation iterations.

I envy you, any place that is near me won't hire me until I turn 16. -_- Also, happy early birthday. :P

The original xBox didn't have nearly as many problems as the current one does. I also loved my original one when I played it. The new chip is less prone to RROD but it still occurs which is quite dissapointing considering how long the 360 has ben released. And I honestly can't feel a difference between a 360 and a ps3 controller, but I guess that depends on your hands. You can check out this thread, there a few links with examples of PS3 controllers that are similar to 360 controllers: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=4124062.

Everything above plus the Jak games and Medal of Honor.
Glad to see the PS2 is still going strong! I will not be buying one because I already have a black slim. But I will be buying tons of classic PS2 games.
That depends how long the disc reader lasts on this one. I just replaced my PS2 a few months ago for the infamous disc reader isssue.

I'm definitely going to get a "PSX" DVR, it's a JPN only Playstation 2 with a TV tuner, hard drive, and a browser highly similar to the one on PS3 (Playstation 3). So yes, I'll be buying a PS2 next year.JReefer1
I hope you know that if you do get the PSX, which was only made for Japan, you'll only be able to play PS2 games made for Japan. And I honestly don't know where you're going to find them since it was released in 2003 (and never made again), and by now, most are gone.
A scant 4 months ago I bought my first one ever. It had been over a decade since I had owned a gaming system before that. So no, I won't be buying another ps2 any time soon. Unless some one steals mine or something. I will keep buying a couple games a month though. I am having a wonderful time working my way through the beat of the best ps1 and ps2 games.
Looks like I'm going to pick up my PS2 in a day or two. Now, I have been looking for games to play and there are a lot of them are not in print anymore and are way to expensive, it's getting kind of annoying really. Like a new Xenosaga 3 is over $150 from a seller like amazon. Kind of amazing really. This just wants me to buy PS2 games even more, they seem like a pretty decent investment. I also wish that the Gamespot forum had an updated list of recommendated games for the PS2, since the old one, and the RPG one have died.

Certainly buddy :D
Not exactly mainstream success titles but definitely one of the BEST experiences from the PS2.
btw sorry for the late reply.
Yes, I plan on buying one. Mine pooped out in 2008 and I haven't replaced it yet, but there are a ton of old PS2 RPGs I want to go back and play, as well as some old PS1 games I still want to pick up and play. I just moved into an area that has a killer flea market with lots of used game stalls, so I want to take advantage of all the available retro-used goodness I can. :D
