Before the SNES and after the Atari my first true love of gaming came from the MSX Personal Computer. Man oh man the nostalgia behind it, I still have all my games carts but the computer died on me ages ago (back in '96 I think). Konami was the king of the MSX with games like King's Valley II, Charlie's Circus, Road Fighter, Nemesis (Gradius), Boxing, Ping Pong, Knightmare, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Hyper Sports, Tennis, Soccer, Top Gun, Vampire Killer (Castlevania in its first incarnation) and the list goes on and on. Galaga was great too. I also enjoyed Rambo very much, it took us ages to figure out how to properly kill the spider and fly the helicopter without getting shot down LOL! Oh the memories.

P.S. The MSX was very popular in Europe and Asia but pretty much unknown in the US back in its prime. For more info check out the Wikipedia article.

I also remember the MSX very fondly. I still have an MSX1, 2, 2+ and Turbo-R hooked up to my TV in the bedroom all in perfect working order. I still play games on the MSX this day, games like: Space Manbow, Xak, Xak 2, Xak 3, SD-Snatcher, Knightmare, Nemesis, Nemesis 2, Nemesis 3, Salamander, Aleste, Aleste 2, Aleste Special, Saziri, Eggerland, Eggerland 2, Thexder, Firehawk (Thexder 2) and I have lots more original games but that are the ones i play the most. Great machine then and I still think it's a great machine to this day. MSX4ever :)

I have a Sony HB-F1XDJ exactly like the pic below:

The MSX was a great system, but the problem was that it didn't took too long to become very outdated in comparison with the other Japanese PC systems. However, in spite of this the MSX managed to secure some very relevent exclusive support from companies like Compile and Konami at a time when around 80% of the Japanese PC games were multi-platforms. And this alone made it an noteworthy gaming platform for a while.

Towards the middle and end of its lifespan though, and in spite of the hardware upgrades, the MSX became something of a "poor mans" gaming PC, as most MSX multi-platform games were a generation behind compared to how the same games performed on the NEC, Fuji and Sharp PC systems of the time.

I used to have an MSX, but it stopped working few years ago.

MSX was my first gaming system I ever had. The game I like the most on it is King's Valley 2.

The ending was just so unique back then. I mean you had to press the button in order to open the pyramid's doors and get out, the hand's animation would make anyone feel the accomplishment back then. Its OST was also great.
