More like Final Fantasy now. I for one remember when:

1. Battlefield games were quality.

2. "Battlefield" meant "epic multiplayer warfare".

3. There were only 4 Battlefield games (Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142).

4. Battlefield Vietnam was considered a commercial failure.

5. Battlefield games were for the PC (and perhaps Macintosh and/or Linux) only.

6. They didn't come out with a new Battlefield game every 3 months.

7. Battlefield games didn't require a fee to play (the new "Battlefield 1943").

8. Battlefield games had expansion packs.

9. Battlefield games didn't rehash the same things over and over again (Battlefield 1943 maps are the same as Battlefield 1942 maps, despite taking place a year later; granted, the objectives may have changed, but the map is the same, just look at Wake Island).

10. Battlefield games were considered "time-tested ****cs".

Yeah. I mean there isn't a Battlefield game coming out in the near future or anything.

BF 1943 required an extra fee? Also 1943, which you've obviously never played is very different to 1942.

I feel like I have to post here just to let you know I read this, but the OP did not post anything that merits a discussion. The Battlefield games are having a bit of a resurgence if anything. Bad Company 2 is goin to be great, and for the first time, I'm actually looking forward to playing a Battlefield SINGLE-PLAYER campaign.

Progression is an improtant aspect in gaming. If the Battlefield series stayed the same (as far as setting and gameplay) then it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today. Battlefield 1942 was the first large-scale multiplayer game that I had played and it was awesome. I'm glad they've changed throughout the years. In my opinion, they've made some really cool improvements to the series.
