Had mine since 2002, and after not playing it for about 5 years, I've been rediscovering it! My favourite games for it are Amped 2 (snowboarding game), Project Gotham Racing, Rayman 3, SSX 3 and Quantum Redshift.

I'd like to say a bit about Quantum Redshift:

This was a game that was left in the gutter by critcs and written off by many as an F-Zero or WipEout clone. It was developed by a team of guys that used to work for Psygnosis and helped create the PS1 WipEout Games, and I must say, they did a fantastic job. It has to be one of the most beautiful and mesmerizing games on the system, and has a sense of speed that equals the Burnout series, with an unflinching framerate of 60 fps. The gameplay itself is more akin to high speed rally driving than the death defying ariel maglev racing of WipEout and F-Zero, in that your craft handles differently over some types of terrain than others, even enabling you to skim across the surface of lakes and rivers. Redshift does feature a rather strange cast of playable characters, each with their own unique ship and (rather lame) backstory, but this does support the rival system that is a part of each race. Said rival system is actually pretty well implemented and adds extra but welcome challenge to the game. Another unique element is the points system, which awards you for the things you do during a race; collecting power-ups, attacking fellow racers, setting blazing lap times, etc. You can then use these points to add better weaponry, or a longer boost time to your ship. All these tings aside, this game is just pure fun. It actually plays very much likeHydro Thunder, but with a massive sense of speed.

If you're looking for a WipEout killer, this is definitely it.

Yeah I have lots of love, for the original Xbox. Remember the topic, that I said I traded my Gamecube in, for an Xbox? :P Great games, very crisp graphics, love the fact it has a built in hard-drive. My favorite games for the Xbox have to be, Deus Ex: Invisible War and Dreamfall. Breakdown is also great. :D

I'm a big fan of the O.G. XBox. I felt it was the best system out last generation (other than the Dreamcast, of course). And here's why:

1. It had the best hardware of all the systems last-generation, and because of it pushed out great looking games.

2. It had a hard-drive. Doesn't seem like a big deal anymore, but back then it was awesome. No more having to buy memory cards and pick and choose what should stay on it and what needs to be erased. You could also install expansions or added-maps to some games. And personally, I used it to store my CD collection. I had a ton of music on mine.

3. XBox Live. Dreamcast did it first, but after it went down XBox Live was practically the only option for console gamers that wanted online multiplayer. And thanks to Halo 2, it was a huge success and became the biggest stepping-off point for the current generation of gaming.

4. Better multiplatform games. Let me start off with a disclaimer here: There are exceptions, there are always exceptions to multiplatform games. However the majority of multiplatform games looked best on XBox.

5. The look of it. A lot of people like to make fun of it. But I think it's the most handsome looking console in my collection, and I own a few consoles (see my signature). It may be gimmicky, but so what, it's video games.

But best of all, as with any good console, is it's great library of games:

Great XBox Exclusives:

  • Arx Fatalis
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes
  • Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Fable
  • Far Cry Instincts
  • Halo 1 & 2
  • Jade Empire
  • MechAssault 1 & 2
  • Panzer Dragoon: Orta
  • Project Gotham Racing
  • Shenmue II (Exclusive in the U.S.)
  • Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic 1 & 2
  • WWE Raw 2

Great XBox Multiplatform Games:

  • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2
  • Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 & 2
  • Darkwatch
  • Gun
  • GTA III & Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
  • Mega Man Anniversary Collection
  • Red Faction II
  • Sonic Mega Collection Plus
  • Spider-Man 1 & 2
  • Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2
  • Tony Hawk's Underground 1 & 2
  • X-Men: Legends 1 & 2

Some of my favourite games ever were on it like Halo, KOTOR, Burnout 3, Splinter Cell 3 and a few others but none of them were exclusive.

I like it mostly for all the PC ports that it received, as well as a variety of Sega games that were ported exclusively over to the XBOX. I'm looking at you Shenmue 2 and Panzer Dragoon Orta :p

I got rid of mine a long time ago, but I plan on getting one again, mainly due to Microsoft ignoring the b/c, or at least saying they weren't supporting it anymore. I had some great games for that system. Jade Empire, Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon Island Thunder, Halo, Halo 2, Rainbow 6, EsPN 2K5, Baldurs Gate, and so many more! It's also cool that you can pick one up for about 50 nowadays. I also prefer to play the games on the original console they were released on, that way when I finish my game room I can have each system hooked up , to multiple tvs, and you can just pop in a game on your preferred platform, while others play on something else. I'm almost finished!

Yeah the Xbox is a great console. It has some great exclusives like Forza, Mechassault, Project Gotham Racing, Fable, and Crimson Skies. and on all multiplatform games, the Xbox was superior to Ps2 and gamecube. sometimes the Xbox version is WAY better. I just dont care for the xbox controller that much. the playstation style controller (dualshock 1, 2, 3) is so much better in my opinion. the xbox360 controller is an improvement, but still not as good.

The original Xbox got be back into console gaming following my dissillusion with the Saturn and moving to PC gaming. Highlights include: Psy-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Phantom Dust, Burnout 3: Takedown.

I think love would be a strong word but I like having it around :) Especially for those few games that aren't backward compatible on the X360

I love my original Xbox and ever since I picked up to component cables for it I've been spending a lot more time playing games on it. I'm about half-way through Doom 3, even though I beat it twice on the PC :P, and just started Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 with my girlfriend.

Considering the Xbox was the most powerful console of it gen, I've been slowly transferring my multiplatform from the Ps2 and Gamecube over to the Xbox. 480p, widescreen support, as well as a generally better looking game and overall better performance can sometimes make a big difference.

I thought it was cool to have around and that it looked nice. The only game that I ever played on it during it's gen was Spiderman.

After getting an Xbox 360, I discovered that I had many great games for it in our DVD/Game closet, such as Morrowind and Halo: CE. At least I can enjoy those games now :D

Lol, it's strange hearing it called 'Jet Grind Radio Future', In the UK, It's called 'JSRF' (Jet Set Radio Future), Which doesn't make as much sense, but sounds cooler imo!. I got that game on a two game disc with Sega GT 2002 bundled with my Xbox console. I haven't played it for ages, but I remember it had an amazing soundtrack!

Wow.........WwwwOooooooooooWwwww!!! The PS controller was good on the PS 1 (but come on its time to evolve), the fact Sony still pushes the crampy Dualshock controller is beyond me.

Most people from what I've seen say the xbox 360 controller is one the most comfortable out there and i agree. the controller s and duke were both great on the original xbox. i prefer a bigger controller as my hand never cramps like with the dualshock

Crimson Skies was a dynamite game! The Xbox did have some killer titles, especially for it's first entry into the market. I plan on getting one again and that Halo limited edition may be the way to go.

The only thing I dont like about the Xbox was microsoft dropping support when the 360 came out and some of the hardware issues that forced me to learn how to fix them on my own. other than that probably my second favorite system of all time after the snes.

I heard that some company that supplied them with an essential part in the system (some chip or disc drive, or something or another, I can't recall) was basically telling them that they're raising the prices on them. So Microsoft decided to just focus on the 360 rather than get gouged on a part for a system that would be obselete soon enough anyways. Can't blame them for that mentality.

Could you guys tell me a bit about Crimson Skies? I remember playing the demo of it at a friends house back in the day, but really don't remember much about the gameplay at all. Is it basically a dogfighting game? How's the multiplayer?

Wipeout does indeed rock, but Quantum Redshift is definitely worthy of being up there with it, and I actually prefer the weapons system in QR. The track design with different types of terrain with the addition of water also makes a nice change to the very technical narrow tracks of Wipeout. Graphically it's just downright beautiful, with that silky smooth fast frame rate and awesome sense of speed. I'd recommend it to any fan of Wipeout :)

No doubt, I think it should be up there with it, for I played it only in passing, but it was great! it was very smooth!

I just have a special place for Wipeout in my heart.. (the playstation versions were ok, but my favorite Wipeout was Wipeout XL on pc)

CS is basically a dogfighting game! 3d flying, not on rails.

It does have multiplayer, (there is also a sequel as well) Multiplayer was good when it was active, if you local multiplayer on a decent size tv its still really fun!

I got my Xbox originally, for one or two games: "Call of C'Thulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth" & "DOOM 3" ... Then I found more to enjoy like "HALO", "Wings of War", "Stranger's Wrath", and "Crimson Skies". I LIKE the system, but I don't LOVE the system. I'd still take my NGC over it in a heartbeat, so I guess you and I differ on that one, RW!

I also like Amped (I only played the first one though. I still play it once in a while)

I enjoyed it at the time but later I had little desire to go back. Most of the games I really liked were eventually ported to PC so I dumped my game collection. I kept the console though for Steel Battalion and a handful of other titles. -Byshop

Wow! I have a Bargain shop close to where I stay, which has tons of videogame stuff. The only thing is that the guy knows how much the stuff is worth, so most of his good stuff isn't cheap. He does have the regular Xboxs for only 39.99 though, and I plan on getting one here shortly for my gameroom.I'm hoping to find a Halo edition if I can find one relatively cheap.

I bought a Xbox after the launch of the 360 for a ridiculous price and there were still many exclusives I enjoyed. But I have to agree that the Xbox library contains a lot of games that I have already played on PC.

Yes I remember the original Xbox. I like the original Xbox enough to buy exactly 100 games during its original 6th generation production run. 2001-2005. So the first Xbox didn't make a huge impression. 24.5 Million sold good enough for second place during the 6th generation console race. The original Xboxbeat Nintendo. I loved the original Xbox. Had 100 games for it, but I sold it...

However I was given a free Xbox and 6 original xbox games. Halo, Halo 2 (the steelbook special edition) Top spin, The Chronicles of Riddick escape for Butcher bay, and Temco Classic Arcade. So a free Xbox and 6 games you cannot complain. The Xbox was a modified Pentium 3 at 733 Megahertz. This videogame console was Microsofts first and paved the way for Xbox 360. So yep the original Xbox didn't recieve love. even from microsoft who were quick to kill it off only after 4 years. I hope that they would have made a slimline version of the original Xbox.

I did really enjoy and still do. The original Xbox is a great console in it's own right. Best controller of the 6th generation.

Yeah, a slim version would have been really nice, but I guess they were in a hurry to push out the 360 by that point.

Look back a few posts at one my posts. It's not that simple. They didn't just drop XBox because they wanted to support 360 only fully of their own volition. It was because a manufacturer tried to gouge them on a part for the original XBox suddenly. So that's why they moved on to 360 exclusively because why spend that much on a system that would be obselete soon enough anyways? The video game industry has never been known for being the most friendly industry and that's just another example of it.

I just got a really good deal on an Xbox.

$5 bucks for the Xbox console, 2 Microsoft brand controllers, all cables & hook ups, Call of Duty Finest Hour, Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring, Lord of the Rings Return of the King, Lord of the Rings Two Towers, Madden NFL 2002, Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars KOTOR, Halo and Halo 2.
