I do, it's on the Nintendo 64. The gamecube version is really not a good game in my eyes, and I'm sure the newest one can't top the original. In my eyes, the original is the ONLY super smash bros game.

tbh the adventure mode alone is better than all of the fighting games put together.

The new games were terrible because of too many secret characters that are exact copies of the characers you already have and tiny levels which turned strategy into button mashing.

I've been with the series since the beginning too and the first one is definitely my least favorite of the three. After Melee came out, I found it very hard to go back and play. I don't even own it anymore.

Button mashing in Melee and Brawl get you nowhere, and they killed most of the clone characters from Melee-- Dr. Mario, Pichu, Roy, and Young Link are gone. Toon Link (Young Link's replacement), Falco, and Ganondorf are much, much less clone-like than before, while Ike, Lucas, and others are as "clone-like" as Luigi was to Mario in Melee (in other words, think Ken and Ryu in Super Turbo).

Don't bash it until you try it. The original post is so inflammatory that it's dancing on the edge of a pin as to whether it gets locked or not.

Are you kidding? I'm not bashing the game, just expressing my feelings that the first one was better.

You can't really be sure if you haven't tried SSBB, remember looks can be decieving. To be quite honest the original one for the N64 wasn't all that great in my opinion, it definitely didn't last 4 years like SSBM did for me. To sum it up tried it before saying the original SSB was the greatest.

You're right, my complaints were directed mostly towards Melee anyways.

while Ike, Lucas, and others are as "clone-like" as Luigi was to Mario in Melee (in other words, think Ken and Ryu in Super Turbo).

MAILER_DAEMON

Eh, Ike isn't even clone like in relation to Marth, at all. The only similarity the two really have is no projectiles, all sword moves, and counter. Pretty much every other aspect of the characters is notably different for them to be fundamentally different in playing style based on weight, speed, sword damage placement, style of moves, and so forth.

Lucas is more clone like to Ness than Ike is to Marth, but at any rate, the only one with anything really to prove is the original poster, whose rationale for why Melee/Brawl are 'terrible' were brief and thin at best, IMHO.

The thing about Melee and Brawl that are strong is how they've kept on expanding the single player aspect of the game, with Brawl easily having about...oh...20+ hours of content easily for just single player.

That ws directed towards Melee only. I know there aren't any clone characters in Brawl.

They're still around, there's just not as many of them, and those that still remain are a bit more unique than the clones in Melee were.

I know that Ike isn't a clone, but some would claim that he is. :?

Okay, but when you make your thread title "anyone remember the REAL super smash bros," the implication you are making are that both Melee and Brawl aren't 'real,' or somehow lesser to the original of the series, which is a bold claim to make when you haven't even played Brawl yet, as it seems.

Not sure what to say, while I like the 64 version it has nothing on melee in terms of gameplay and value, better controls (mainly from using a controller that doesn't leave blisters on the skin) and much more to do. It has EVERYTHING the original has plus more. Seriously, there is nothing from a technical/value/graphic/gameplay standpoint that SSB does better than SSBM, the only thing that makes it better is an opinion.. which everyone has and I respect... just pointing out there is technically nothing better about it compared to its younger brother and you can't exactly prove otherwise.

I really like the N64 version as well, yes, I admit, but Brawl...It's just so much more fun to me what with all the new characters, the new final smash feature, and everything else good combined. I can understand liking the N64 version the best though, it's a classic.

...so your saying the original SSB is better because of less characters, stages, modes, and no chargeable smash attacks? seriously, the SSB series doesn't screw with what already works, they gameplay is more or less the same through out every game, the only changes are to the content such as characters, stages, and modes

I loved the first SSBB on N64, i played it for hours with my brother and my two neighbors years ago.. It was the only game on the N64 that'd keep us all four entertained and not complaining about changing games or anything.. Well, 007 Golden Eye was like that too.. But yeah, im sure the WII one is 100x better then the original by the looks of it with all the new features :)
