I like arcade machines better (i.e. HOTD4 and DDR SuperNOVA). Don't think about arcades being expenseive or anything, just think about whether you prefer home consoles or arcade machines. P.S. - I'm remaking this topic because JustPlainLucas locked my other topic, so I'm waisting more bandwidth creating this one. Makes a lot of sense!

*Wasting* eh? Anyways, I personally like home consoles, sure, you drop a few hundred dollars on a console and games inintally, but sometimes you really dont feel like going to the arcade, you can play some single-player only games in the comfort of your own home, and now all the new consoles have at least 4 player support which means you can always get a bunch of mates together and play together just like you would at the arcade.

I prefer to sit on my ass at my own home playing my games than going to an arcade pumping in quarters to play a racing game. Especially now that the console ports are just as good.

Arcades>>>>consoles

I don't want a watered down expereince and playing strangers is best for multiplayer.

Nothing beats Street Battles for fighting games nothing :)

Arcades by many, many miles. Sitting at home playing is nice and all, but the arcades are an arena. The feeling of sitting in an japanese arcade playing several famous players in Virtua Fighter was an undescribable feeling.

Agreed online is a horrible subsititute. Again nothing beats street battles nothing, it's what made the genre big in the first place. :)

Well they are both good in there own ways.

Going to the arcade if you have them available is great and all but being able to play those games at home whenever you want to certainly is an excellent option to have. Also there are many kinds of games you can get on a console that simply wouldn't be suitable for an arcade environment.

Online is also a very huge plus for consoles. Sure it's great to play against people live and right there with you but depending where you live having people who want to play that particular game with you isn't always something that may be available whenever you want it to be. Online at least gives you a much larger chance of playing a human opponent.

Anyway I wish I had an arcade where I live so that I could go there whenever I wanted to so anyone who does I say enjoy the benefits of both arcades and consoles.

I enjoy both consoles and arcade machines. My favorite arcade game is Maximum Tune.

Is it just me or am I the only one who thinks that the arcades will make a huge comeback in the West?

I mean like seeing them appear in coffee shops, supermarkets, game stores, etc.

This should have been a poll topic ;)

I personally never went through the arcade phase that alot you older folks went through . . .namingly because, well, I didn't have to in order to play good quality games. So my vote is definatly swayed towards the console. But, I definatly could see why people prefer arcade, especially for driving and fighting games.
