I've been wondering about this for a while.

Is it a difficult job to get? Does it pay terribly? Can you work from home? How do youget aGame Testing job?

Anything else I could know??

X~

When I looked into this some time ago I basically got the impression that its a pretty hard job to get as there arent that many positions. Its not the best paying job but the people I spoke to were gamers so the less than impressive pay is balanced by the fact you are playing games and being paid to do so. Out of all the people I spoke to who tested games none worked from home. I think it depends on the game. I mean testing at home would allow for a leak of information, or unfinished game onto the internet.

I know a guy who did it before he started working with activision. Apparently he was getting $500 a week with overtime factored in. So no, not really.

Oh, maybe you can contact with some game news site, like Gamespot, mmosite, mmorpg and so on. Ask them if you can get a testing job at your home, good luck to you guy.

From what I understand, it's a very tedious job, and one which doesn't reward you very well. Even if you somehow get assigned to a game that doesn't completely suck, you are still playing the game over and over and over again to find the smallest of problems, so you will be fed up of the game before it's even finished. Then, even if you do report problems with it, it's likely that you won't get listened to and the problems will remain. And that's with any game, good or not. Imagine getting assigned onto a bad game, and still having to do that.

But, it depends if you could do that, or would enjoy it. I know I couldn't.

When you're a kid you think playing games all day would be fun, but you don't stop to consider they're unfinished ones, and let's face it most games aren't that good to begin with.

I've done it, it's not the most exciting of jobs -- but if you're looking for a step in the door or a really fun place to work, most game testing jobs are good for that.

Game testing jobs pay quite poorly I hear, but if you are really into gaming, the environment and coworkers wiukd be comfortable, since I imagine the other workers would be into gaming just like you. Unfortunately, theres a catch: game testing is mainly for getting rid of bugs, imagine finding an annoying glitch, then having to replay it over and over again to confirm its there. Now, imagine doing this all across the game, for hours on end until you punch out. By the time the game is on store shelves, it won't matter how big a fan you were, of how popular and good it is, you'll be flipping it off evertime you see it.

Well, I hate paying for a bad game and playing it. I think being paid to play a bad game would be a whole different story. :P

Testing sucks. You're testing only specific features and then looking for ways to BREAK games, not play them.
