UT3 has already been released on PC... :|
And any game that is announced for another platform is not exclusive.
foxhound_fox
Actually they are. Consoles and PC's aren't in competition so the consoles race to get exclusives before other consoles do.

It doesn't matter what you think. When GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas came out for PS2 and the contract said "Timed Exclusive" it was barring the game from appearing on any other console. Rockstar could have made the game for PC at the same time, they just didn't.
Same thing with UT3. It is considered, by contract, a PS3 exclusive but it's also found on PC.
You can argue all you want but it doesn't change the fact that the word has a different legal definition when it comes to console gaming.

Consoles and PC are two entirely different beasts.
when you were a kid, did you ask your mother for a SNES, Genesis or Gaming PC? No because when you're a young gamer, most of the times PC doesn't matter
when you go to stores such as target, circuit city, best buy... are the computer games and console games in the same isle? Hmmm they don't split up competing tooth pastes, tissues or even dvd/ blu ray
how come the boxes on Halo 1, Hale 2 and Halo 3 all say "For Xbox or 360 only" when their PC counterparts are in the works... same with Mass Effect & Bioshock? However this stamp is missing from title like Oblivion, Two Worlds and other games that eventually find their way on PS3?
I know what exclusive technically means but that has no bearing with the legal definition in gaming.
I could have sworn Unreal Tournament 3 is on PC.

No they aren't.
If I have the choice to get a game on one platform over another...it's not exclusive.
Just because someone decides to limit their own selection by ignoring any particular platform, doesn't mean that the choice doesn't exist for everyone else.

What does that have to do with a consumer having the option to acquire UT3 on either platform.
In fact, currently UT3 is only available for purchase on PC.

Again, one consumer's decision doesn't elimitate the existence of the option for other consumers.
Just because a "young gamer", PC gaming may have not mattered to you....doesn't mean it didn't matter to some other young gamer....in addition, young gamers arent the only ones out there buying games.

I've been to plenty of stores where PC games were right alongside console games it was the isle labeled "videogames".
In addition I've also been to stores where 360 games have been a in completely different section of the store from PS3 or Wii games.

The console boxes for Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Mass Effect that all say "for Xbox or 360 only" are all from games the were released and the boxes were printed before the official announcement of those games for another platform, such as PC.....it's called marketing, for those people who believe dumb labels like "only on 360" as some form of absolute truth makes them rush out and buy the game faster for a specific system cause they don't not realize that possibly in 5 months the game will be available on another platform, possibly with extra features and optimizations, as if the case with Mass Effect.
BioShock doesn't say "360 only"....why, cause it was officially announced and confirmed for PC before the boxes were printed....same with Oblivion.....here is another game that doesn't say "only on 360" on the box, despite the fact that 360 was the only home console it was available for.

That picture you showed is a mock up that 1,000,000 sites had before the game even came out. If you actually look at the retail box like I'm looking at right now in front of me, it says only on Xbox 360 and Windows.
There is a picture of the game after the game hit the stores.
Do me a favor and type in "Exclusive" and "Bioshock" and you will see 375,000 results.
For you people arguing against the term exclusive in videogames, you better start contacting all these sites and tell them they are using the wrong word

1. This isn't a anti-PC rant so quit your dramatics and saying things like "just because someone wants to limit.. blah blah blah" That wasn't my point and you're putting words in my mouth as always.
2. Halo was created for PC first and they never canceled the PC version yet the "360 only" label made it on the bo so there goes that idea that the Halo games on PC were an after thought
Also, are you going to seriously act like Bioware had no intentions of porting Mass Effect to PC so they just left that label on the box? You were arguing months ago that Mass Effect was in development for PC but now to suit your argument you're going to feign ignorance?
3. if all platforms live in such great harmony despite major retailers just as Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, COMPUSA, Toys R US... then why does the NPD also see them as two distinctive markets where the figures are calculated seperately in their breaks downs as console and PC sales. Shouldn't they just say " game sales reached this much money " then break it down between PC, Sony, MS and Nintendo since they are all in competition with one another?

"Obviously we need to give as many people as possible access to our game. However, this is an Xbox 360 exclusive and it's coming out on PC. That's the way it is on Bioshock" senior designer Joe McDonagh told CVG.
now the case is closed
so maybe you guys can quit with the "but..but..but" The industry has a different definition for exclusive, you can argue all you want but I have quotes from developers, I have google links out the yingyang. deal with it.

actually what i learned in this topic is the definition of exclusive means a limited release. so a game can come out on DS PS3 and PC and still be exclusive to those platforms seeing as none of them are in competition with each other.

He is misusing the term. "Exclusive" means that it is on one, singular platform. It has always meant that, the definition has never changed until people have started questioning the validity of PC gaming as a proper gaming platform. UT3 is a multiplatform game. It exists on PC and PS3 right now and will on 360 later. Let's also not forget that it came out on PC first (Nov 19 PC, Dec 11 PS3), thus with your logic, making it a PC "exclusive."
Just because a developer claims something doesn't make it right. Cliffy B and Peter Molyneux claim that PC gaming is "dying." The PC Gaming Alliance says that there are 263 million online PC gamers around the world. Both of them are obviously incorrect.foxhound_fox
He is not misusing the term. you are applying another definition to a word that has a totally different meaning in this market. Actually CliffyB never said the it was dying, he said it was in disarray which means unorganized and now that there is a council, he feels like that's what PC gaming needs to get back on track. After reading Peter M's statement, He says everyone has a computer but the most mainstream games on it are WoW and The Sims. He didn't mention anything about sales decline or PC gaming dying. I don't know if you were in the industry, and the majority of homes in the US had a PS3 but only 2 games had mass appeal while all the other games are seeing sales not even close to those games.
So...bad example. My example still stands because what the guy said is the truth. Bioshock is Exclusive to the 360 and on it's on the PC

Ok, now you're just trolling.
Get a dictionary, look up "exclusive".
In marketing, "exclusive" can refer to products that are only available from select distributors or retailers, and have never been released before, or only at a particular event.
wow look at that... there's plurals in the definition of exclusive meaning it can come out for more than one thing.
Hence... UT is a timed exclusive for the PS3 because it hasn't been release on the 360 yet. Q.E.D.

how is teaching trolling? were your high school teachers trolls? how about college professors or mentors?
Ok instead of getting into this endless debate, I'm just going to give the TC the answers he/she's looking for:
If you're only interested in console gaming, then UT3 was a timed exclusive for the PS3. However, it's coming out on the Xbox 360 in a couple of months too. As for Haze, that has been confirmed soley for the PS3, and there's been no word on whether we'll be seeing a PC or Xbox 360 version. So for UT3 it right now basically depends on which platform you'd prefer to play it on/is available to you. And if you're really eager to play Haze, then you're gonna have to shell out the $ for a PS3 or you'll have to wait and hope they will release it for another platform as well.
