Yes, but the cart systems had a physical lockout, meaning that the cart and slot were shaped differently based on region. However, playing an NTSC game on a PAL system isn't an issue of region locking so much as it is them being designed for different TVs; a PAL TV has a different resolution and aspect than an NTSC TV. Even if you could get it to fit, there's no guarantee that it would play right.MAILER_DAEMONtrue, NTSC games tend to run slower and have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, when played on a PAL machine. there are however converters made exactly for that purpose of changing the signal from the N64 to 60Hz, and most PAL tvs today have support for 60Hz anyways
[QUOTE="BuryMe"]Aren't wii and ds region free? I can buy japanese Bangaio-o spirits for example and it'll play on my ds no probs... There is some confusion on this all hand held systems are completely region free so you can play any game from any regeion on one. The Wii however isn't region free just like all other home consoles, although much like the Gamecube you can get things like the Freeloader that allowsyou to play games from any region.Yes, they are. Every nintendo console to date has been region locked.
Odnomiar
yes but easy modification(danger may cause cuts and burns to hands and console where you dont want it to happen)
if you do it on a japanese or us version it will play that region and the us version could use the 64dd but only with the mod(pal cant do it because of 50HZvs 60Hz and 100/120v vs 240v).
im not saying the mod for GS reasons
