In the last couple months activision spawned not one, but two maps packs to milk the MW2 herd: $15 for the Stimulus pack and in two days $15 for the Resurgence pack. $30 total. You can almost buy a new game with that money. Even worse, if you don't buy the map packs, good luck finding a game lobby (at least that's how things are going for me).

Isn't this trend getting out of hand? Wasn't CoD4 perfectly fine with a single map pack? Also, aren't these prices absloutely ridiculous? I'm not arguing about how anyone spends their money, but as I said: add $10 to that amount and you can buy a newly released title.

Your thoughts?

Theres 2 map packs? Why didn't they just add the 2 together instead of forcing people to pay for each.. Don't they make enough money already ?

No freaking way, they have totally killed the game early. No wonder IW walked. Activision is the direct spawn of hell.

I hate to say it. Despite the fact that Activision is an evil spawn of hell for selling us some stupid maps at $15 (which will likely increase the price of DLCs in all games in the future), people still BUY them. And as long as people keep buying, the companies are going to resort to DLCs to make more revenues in the future. This will also make companies more eager to keep contents from the original retail version to be sold later as DLCs. Supply-Demand applies. We have to stop paying for these craps.

Yeah, cause Mad Moxxi was worth $10, right? Come on man, the MW2 pricing isn't that off base.

Activision can compensate this pricing insanity if they sell a bundle for $20. But I doubt they'll do that. And it's insane to think that the Stimulus Pack was the highest selling DLC on PSN!

This is the same company that sold a WoW mount for $25, isn't it?

I've sworn off all games that are affiliated with Activision. Yes, that includes Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, which is unfortunate because I'm a fan of both games. But so long as Blizzard is partnered with Activision, I won't support them.

I dont know about you, but newly released games cost $60 where I live, not $40. That's twice as much as the $30 Activision is charging, so no, it's not that bad.

Then just about every map pack on Xbox Live has been even MORE of a rip-off. Really, Halo 3 has been selling 3 maps for $10 with minimal outrage, even when one of those maps was a remake as well. Most of this is just Modern Warfare 2 hate extended to all aspects of the game.

Let's be honest here man, if the downloads were priced at $10, it would be a substantially better deal than almost every other game out there. $15 is a bit pricey, but it doesn't put Activision into evil empire territory. There are plenty of things that do, so let's not focus on this as if it is one of the worst deals out there.

They cost €70 where I live, that's why I buy online and pay them 40 bucks. Anyone can do that, so it's reasonable to say you can get a newly released game for $40. Correct me if I'm wrong

I've never been known as a MW2 hater, quite the opposite: I'm only mad at the people who ruin the experience, so this is not MW2 hate, just a protest over map packs that are almost mandatory (as I said, it takes me far longer to find a lobby now, I don't want to imagine after June 3). $10 would indeed be much better, like the Variety pack for CoD4. The Halo 3 map pack is also a ripoff, this doesn't justify activision though. Activision like to play dirty and this is another piece of the puzzle.

And its only gonna go downhill from here.

20 years in the futures i can see companies selling only the core game with a single portion of the game open (like a demo) and you having to pay for the rest if this trend continues.

Remember the good old days when devs didn't give you new maps all that often? Just some dev kits and let the community do its job?

Yep, it's a rip-off. Yep, i know quite a few guys who bought the stimulus package and will probably buy the new one. But i won't. I still find plenty of people on the original maps and all i play is merc team deathmatch.

They'll make the Game Of The Year Edition of MW2, just like Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. I feel that gamers will spend money new map packs for they want to get most of MW2 (even thought four maps are from COD 4 MW). Call Of Duty 4 had 16 maps when it was released almost three years ago. For $30, I can go out & buy Bayonetta for that price alone!

Why would you waste your money on such rubbish? CoD is absolutely dreadful, and so's Activision.

Besides, the CoD4 maps should come free instead of people having to pay for some fat Activision scumbag clicking copy & paste

Let's not get carried away here now. Personal preferences aside CoD is not "absolutely dreadful" but yeah Activision and Bobby Kotick have said and done things that have been pretty tasteless lately so this kind of backlash is certainly to be expected. You are pretty off-base though that these maps are done by some "fat Activision scumbag clicking copy & paste". These things are done by real people that cost them real money and resources so I don't see any problem in giving them my money in exchange. However I do agree that they are pricey and have held off on purchasing them myself. I'm more comfortable with $10 map packs myself.

By saying CoD up there, I meant the latest CoDs, with the exception of 4, since it was alright. And what they do is pretty much copy & paste, since they don't start the map from scratch.

They can charge as much as they can, but eventually those paying for it (definitely not me) will realize that they're being ripped off and stop buying it. The backlash won't be pretty, example: see GH sales. Activision are digging their own grave.

I haven't bought a single map pack for CoD.Mainly because i can't stand dying so otfen on multiplayer. Its not like you get 10/1 K/D ratio every single time you play. But yet, that would be like only way, to have fun for me.I just hate to die so often. It ruins the game anyway.

Hmm well I've only played a little of it so not really sure what to make of it yet. Seen it selling for $5 new so figured what the hell why not. Got the RDR Sombrero as an avatar award in RDR. Not sure how I got it though. I guess for shooting outlaws hats off or something. Figured may as well put it on my avatar for awhile.

You'll get to hate Jericho eventually. It would be a good game if there weren't such endless enemy respawns and bad AI. It's a game that BEGS for a co-op mode. *sigh* so much wasted potential /off topic

*Shrugs* I found MW2 to be a fantastic game myself so I completely understand it's high critical praise and massive sales. While I feel $15 per map pack for MW2 to be a bit too pricey I'm not going to bemoan those that are willing to pay for it since it's relative on what enjoyment they get out of it and it's worth to them. Since there's always a ton of people playing at any time of the day I'm sure those that buy it now will have spent more then a sufficient amount of time so as to get they're money's worth from it.

Maybe, maybe not. I tried the demo quite awhile back and found it to be kind of fun with a cool and creepy theme. Not worth a full $60 mind you but definitely worth the $5 I paid for it. Not sure what you mean by endless enemy respawns because so far it's been kill a set number of enemies then move on type of gameplay unless it changes later on. The AI doesn't seem incredibly smart but they've been at least serviceable so far and have pull me out of a couple of jams.

respect your opinon :) but what I guess im trying to say is that it's a ripoff for it's price, it isn't worth the 60 bucks, or the 50 bucks or the 40 bucks idk about how much you value it but I like to say it's just a over buffed up version of Counter strike with better graphics..

While I feel $15 per map pack for MW2 to be a bit too pricey I'm not going to bemoan those that are willing to pay for it since it's relative on what enjoyment they get out of it and it's worth to them. Since there's always a ton of people playing at any time of the day I'm sure those that buy it now will have spent more then a sufficient amount of time so as to get they're money's worth from it.

respect your opinon :) but what I guess im trying to say is that it's a ripoff for it's price, it isn't worth the 60 bucks, or the 50 bucks or the 40 bucks idk about how much you value it but I like to say it's just a over buffed up version of Counter strike with better graphics..

I got it for $60 and definitely feel it was money well spent. did 100% of the campaign, played some Spec-Ops but need to play more, and am currently over 400% in multiplayer. Not sure what you mean by a "buffed up" Counter Strike. I played only a little bit of CS but that was a very long time ago and MW2 certainly has way more going on in the mp modes then CS. That just seems like an over generalization you can make for any FPS multiplayer game. Of course it's going to have better graphics given the hardware and time differences between the two games so I really don't see how that's an issue.

People are willing to spend $60 every year on the same game they already have, $50 to play it online, and if their console isn't in the same room as a comp or modem, $70-100 on a wireless adapter. This is all for the 360 mind you, but the overall point is that people will pay $40 for a new map. Just out of curiosity, does the pc version of MW2 allow users to make their own maps?

Well this logic kind of fails in a few areas. Firstly while you may find MW2 similar to previous CoD games, most likely MW, they are certainly not the same game.

The $50 fee for Xbox Live Gold is certainly not just to play one game and neither would the wireless adapter be something purchased for one game.

Also where in the world did you get this $40 for a map thing? It's $15 for a pack of 4 maps and there soon being two map packs available would make it $30 to all 8 maps.

I think he means that if they released a map pack with a single map for $40 people would still buy it... it's an obvious hyperbole but I think he's right: no matter the price a lot of people will still buy it as long as it has this ot that logo stamped on it (MW2 in this case) off topic Jericho gets brutally annyoing from the 2nd level on. Can't say more not to spoil the already confusing plot :P /off topic

No way am I willing to pay 15$ for a 'map pack'.

Until the majority of players refuse to pay their completely ridiculous prices for DLC's we'll all just keep getting ripped off.

C'mon guys, it's pretty freekin' easy to understand the intention for all the overpriced dlc's out there....they just wanna stretch the lives outa a dying title before it's done for.

The point of the matter here folks is that companies are openly ripping us off on DLC and we know it. I really like MW2 and I am sure I would love the new maps but enough is enough. Even the the game community and people who work in the industry are openly admitting that these maps are overpriced. I know we want them, heck I want them, but I am not getting them because we need to stop this industry trend before it gets way out of hand. If Activision can charge us 1200 points now for these two map packs whos not to say they won't charge more for less again in the future. I figured after the backlash they have recieved from fans over the Stimulus pack that they might have at least made all 5 maps "NEW" or at thrown in some spec ops missions. Instead they slap us with the same type of deal. If anyone could afford to give fans anything "free" as a way to say thank you, it would be Infinity Ward and Activision. I am one fan that will not be buying the Resurgence pack on the 3rd and I hope many more of you do the same.

Map packs in general suck ass. I am never going to continue playing a game as soon as they bring out map packs. Which basically makes it manditory to buy them because you wont be able to find anymore games. It is enevitable sure but what happened to the days when games released WITH their editor and then those willing to create, created. The sad thing is most of these maps have probably been made for awhile now as Activision has their own software to create them, I'm assuming, rather easily. Not only that but with a $15 price tag for 4 maps? What the hell? They are nothing more than Crooks with victims willingly willing to be victimized. Rather tragic really..
