Yeah, there's still a huge userbase. The game rocks if you have the time to put into it.

Just don't stop playing. If you deactivate your account and you don't turn it back on within 90 days you have to re-buy the game in order to play it.WapoStyle

According to mmogcharts.com, there's still about 500,000 subscriptions for FFXI. That's across three different systems since they all play on the same servers. That's extremely strong, especially for a game as old as FFXI.
