Fps's and movie-like games are so popular these days that make me wonder whether platformers are a dead genre or not.

I'd love myself some good platformers, challenging but also lighthearted, humorous and colorful games.

Anyone else craving for more platformers?

@aia89: What's your platform? Because even if the genre isn't the standard it was decades ago, I find it hard to believe you have no platformers to try_

I have games to try, mainly old ones though. My question is whether platforming is a dying genre or only encircled in the indie sphere with the exception of Nintendo and partially Ubisoft.

I got a gaming Pc, Wii U, 360, PS3 and 3ds.

They're not dead, although I wish 3d platformers were more abundant. I'm a bit over 2d ones

The Wii U had some excellent platformers (one of the reasons that I love the console despite it's flaws). Platformers will probably never be as big as they were in the 80s and 90s again, but I do think that they started to make a bit of a comeback last gen after being pretty much dead in the 6th gen.

I'm glad that the industry is not completely dominated by FPS's and movie games.

@aia89: 3DS has a ton of platformers. Kirby has about four I think on the 3DS alone. One being very recent.

On the WiiU I had Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze. My second favorite game on the platform. It's a must buy!

And on P.C. too many to name. Freedom Planet was one I liked but I think it's on almost every platform now.

But on PS3 you have the Little Big Planet games, I do not recommend the third one because it's garbage but the first two are worth it for the story campaign alone.

My 360 was a glorified Gears of War and Ninja Gaiden 2 machine so can't really give you recommendations for platformers.

And for future we have Sonic: Mania coming soon and will be on most modern platforms.

If you ever get a PS4 or Vita I highly recommend Tearaway, it's one of my favorite 3D platfomers of all time. I rank it up with Mario Galaxy in overall quality :)

Well, it is dominated by those genres, but there are plenty of good games of all types out there to be played.

They just remade it from scratch on the PS4. It's supposed to be a really good game too. Platformers are far from dead. The Crash Bandicoot Trilogy selling so well is one good example. As long as it's at least a good game it should sell well because there aren't that many platformers these days. If it's not a good game like Yooka-Layle it ends up being ignored and forgotten. I know they have Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, and I'm pretty sure they still make Rayman games too.

I say it won't ever be finish for platformer. And there is some good one around like Little Nightmare.

It's a kind of game that will stay for ever in my book.

I really don't consider them dead yet. Lots of good ones still out there.

3D platformers, especially AAA releases are almost dead. It's why I want another Crash soon and hopefully Ratchet. We are ifnally getting a Mario and another Sonic lol
