Hey all,

I've had Gamefly for the last month, and since I live in Texas, the shipping times have been terrible. The average turnaround time from when I send a game and recieve the next is almost 2 weeks. Therefore, I am looking for some alternatives (I've already marked off Gameznflix due to terrible reviews about queue issues).

Has anyone tried RentZero, GottaPlay or Gamerang? If so, can you answer a few questions for me?

1.) How good is the service at sticking to your queue? Do they actually send stuff near the top of your list?

2.) Are they good at getting new releases?

3.) How the is the game selection for xbox 360, xbox and ps2?

4.) For anyone that might know, what are the shipping times like to Texas or other states in the south central US?

Any comments or suggestions on a Gamefly alternative would be much appreciated!

Personally I don't like any of these services. I've tried Gameznflix and another one that isn't even around anymore. (unless they renamed it.)

I would just check out your local video store and see if they have any monthly plans that gives you unlimited game rentals. I know Hollywood Video and Blockbuster both have these for games only.

I'm using Gamerang. They are usually good about staying with your queue but the games are usually not available. It usually takes 2-3 days at the most to get a game when they actually ship it

Hi. As you can tell, I'm from Rentzero.

1. Most of the time we manage to ship peoples' #1 queues, and most of the rest of the time we're within the top five. And the longer you hold a membership your chance of getting a #1 gets even better.

2. Our distributor is good about getting new games to us within a week of street date. For the big games - GoW, Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy - we had copies before street date. We're always trying to speed up that process without resorting to setting up permanent camp in front of a Gamestop.

3. We actually do most of our business in the 360 right now, so its library is big and getting better all the time. As for previous gen we have just about everything you'd want and we don't plan on throwing away those games...well, ever. However we don't do handhelds so we can put all our focus on consoles.

4. We're based in Houston TX and because of that our stuff going to east and central TX and Louisiana usually gets there overnight. We can get stuff to the south central US in two days usually, three or four to the west coast, and four or five to the east coast. In fact, we recently switched our mailbox to the distribution center in downtown Houston and we hope to reduce time to your mailbox and back to ours even further.

Overall, we try to be a no-frills, all about games alternative to Gamefly - we advertise by word of mouth, we keep our costs low, we don't have a marketing department, and our website has all the lastest bells and whistles 1998 can offer. Our member fees go into running the business, paying for bandwidth, and buying new games - that's it. And based on that, we hold our own :)

Do not do business with RentZero. I've had constant problems: Games have been lost, on a couple occasions, I've waited over a month without a game, and they don't respond to my complaints. I've tried to resolve the issues, and I told them I'd be posting comments online and putting up a webpage to tell my story. They didn't even respond to that. I feel completely ripped off, and I hope that nobody else gets suckered in by this company.

I have heard that Gamerang is the Best in the Texas area. I am thinking of going with them myself soon.

I had gameflix as well and the turnaround takes forever. I really do not think it is the fault of Gamefly though.

They just do not have a dist. center in Texas. Just my 2 cents

I used GameFly for the month they gave me a reasonable price and it worked well, except the second game I rented got lost, but they were quick to resend. The price is outrageous for game rentals, though. I stopped renting from Blockbuster once they hit $7 for 5 nights, which is totally absurd, considering they brought back the late fees. GamezNflix is very slow, they never send anything in the top of the list, and it took almost two weeks from my last return (5/1) to the next game shipped (5/13) and my que is currently at 22. The availability bar is not accurate, as I have my number 1 choice as part of the ready to ship/short wait list. Good thing I found the promo to only pay 12.75 for three games, which is cheap compared to just 1 game at a time plans with everyone else. The website needs serious help, lots of bugs (i.e. search field doesn't like when you press 'Enter' instead of clicking search, managing the que is frustrating when trying to rearrange titles). I would be satisfied if there were games I was sure I could have shipped to me in 2-4 days, not 1-2 weeks. They claim to have distribution centers in Southern California, Denver, Kentucky and PA.

I'm pretty sure they just opened up a center in Texas so your problem is solved.
