I've been hearing a lot of talk about traditional single player experiences are slowly fading, especially when recently Activision are not adding a single player campaign in Black Ops 4, and games like Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fortnite are becoming incredibly popular. I want to know what you think of this?

Against all odds, they have gotten healthier. We'll see how much of a fluke it was.

Yes, all dead. Not one game with single player content will exist ever this day moving forward. Take my word for it_

Now excuse me as I check on my Resident Evil 2 pre-order.

To answer the question, no (do some research) & I wish VGC (video game community) would chill out with the whole "single player games are dying & I'll quit playing video games" nonsense.

Pubg is dying fortnite will slow eventually cod will always be there with battlefield. Single player games will always have a market on console. Once they don't it's the end of gaming for me personally.

Yes it is dead, for big developers at least. There still many indie developers are making single-player games right now.

I don't get why people say this all the time. 2 out of the top 3 best selling games this year are single players. Also, Legend of Zelda and Mario broke franchise sales last year. If anything, comapred to last gen when I can tell you that yes they were dying, this gen has made single player games great again.

the irony is in my mind from what I see having played games for 38 years is that within the past 5 years or so there has been an explosion of single player games (I include games that allow for both by the way)

No way. Spider-Man and God of War are two of the best selling games of the year and RDR2 is out soon which everyone will go nuts over. Even though more companies are trying to find ways to monetize their games (which usually involves multiplayer and lootboxes) single player games are still making people a shit ton of money

Hell no. Not at all. Single player games are doing better than ever if you ask me. God of War broke sales records and surpassed all expectations. Spiderman sold 3.3 million in 3 days. Red Dead Redemption is a strong contender for GOTY and all of this GaaS microtransaction filled rubbish makes me appreciate the great single player games even more.

This.

As for my own answer, not even a little, although they are becoming less common in the AAA console-space. The thing is, there's a lot of room in the industry. Even if the Forzas, Battlefields, and CoDs dominate the public perception and companies are incentivized to make them because there are more opportunities for monetization, there will always be single player games if for no reason other than not every company has the resources to make and maintain multiplayer titles.

i think AAA single player is moving more and more towards open world, which for me is a different kind of death given the state of the genre today, but there's still plenty of them if you like that sort of thing.

But what really bugs me is the lack of quality modern WRPGs. I don't want to play isometrics. I'm sick of them. It's like fashion returning to the 80s and people running around with Motown revival haircuts...no, we did this already. i don't want to go back; I don't want to game like it's 1999. I want to build on the traditions of Bloodlines and Deus Ex, play games like KotOR but maybe by someone who knows how to write and pace a story. All we really have for that is CDProjekt now that BioWare exists in name only.

I agree. Not only that but they are breaking record sales. If anything, this is a rebirth.

I have been coming back to single player games even more as multiplayer games are becoming more and more of the same i guess?

I think it has a lot to do with the competetive scene right now, as every games wants to have their own scene and professional players, i can't seem to fiend many friendly people around these days, everyone just competes

I don't think it's dying, but I used to play about 90%of my game playing online, and now it's about 75%. Single player games are becoming more common in recent times. You could say it's kind of making a comeback.

They’re not dying, you’ll really only hear that from lazy and cheap developers that don’t want to bother making quality single player games.
