NOTE: DO NOT SPOIL ANY PART OF ANY GAME. THIS IS A GENERIC DISCUSSION ABOUT HAVING GAMES SPOILED. IF YOU WANT TO MENTION A GAME TITLE, THAT IS FINE. HOWEVER, DO NOT POST ANY PLOT SPOILERS OF ANY SORT.

I have had Metal Gear Solid (major plot point), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (the ending), and GTAIV (major plot point), Chrono Trigger (major plot point) and Tales of Symphonia (major major plot point) all spoiled for me, and (not coincidentally), I haven't gone back and made significant progress in any of them. I feel like if a game's story gets spoiled, and the story is one of the game's highlights, I can't bring myself to play it because it just makes me feel like I'm missing out on what should have been a great story.

What about you? What games have you had spoiled for you, and how do you think it affects the gaming experience overall?

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTE ABOVE; DO NOT FURTHER THE PROBLEM.

I've had plot points spoiled, but it hasn't stopped me from playing or enjoying them. Also keep in mind that many plot-based games include a New Game+ mode, which encourages you to replay after beating it. So you can even replay the entire game despite knowing everything about the plot.

while I prefer NOT to get any spoilers about games im about to buy, I often play them several times, to me games are a bit like movies in that aspect...

Oh yeah? Well, I beat BioShock. Story, spoiled. Then I played it like 3 more times.

You never know, they could have given you faulty information.

I just like seeing stories unfold, sometimes I think people are far too paranoid about "spoilers".

Yes, if it's a cool story. Baldur's Gate 2 and Chrono Trigger are some good examples. I know both of them backwards. :D

I have a terrible knack for spoiling video games for myself. Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Half Life 2: Episode Two, parts of Final Fantasy VI and VII, Bioshock, all spoiled. But I still enjoyed them. They're still really fun games.

I think that, when someone spoils the plot of a game for you, he should refund you half of the game's price.

Sometimes it's just fun to see how the story plays out even if I know what happens. Knowing what happens is one thing, but playing it and seeing it for yourself is another. I mean, why else do people re-watch their favourite movies?

I always manage to avoid spoilers easily, be it for games or movies or a TV series, I like to be surprised when I find out for myself. I don't see the appeal to spoiling a story by telling everything that's happened in it if others haven't seen it yet, smacks too much of attention seeking.

The journey itself is more important than the destination.

lol I misunderstood this thread at first. I thought it was asking if it was worth replaying an RPG once you have already beaten it. THats kinda the same thing as what you did ask though.

I agree with Triangle a little bit. RPG's should be mostly about the journey. I'd also like to say that sometimes second playthrough can yield a better understanding or just more enjoyment. You dont have to worry about figuring out the game or whats going to happen next. I got through ALOT of FF10 on ps2 when it got released but then I didnt play it for years and then i finally baught it off ebay and even though I knew a fair amount of the story I had a ton of fun. Everything seemed to be much more enjoyable. Battles were funner, the story made more sense, I spent more time doing side quests.

I could see how some people might be really put off by the idea of having to waste tons of hours slogging through a game just to see the damn story but the story isnt the only part of the game. Its like the lyrics in music. its only a part of the song. You still gotta hear the beats and melodies to experience it fully.

Out of the ones you mentioned bro I would still make an effort to play KoToR, GTA4, and Chrono Trigger. Metal Gear Solid 1 doesnt really have killer gameplay or graphics. And I guess I wont comment on Tales. I dont have alot of experience with the series

I hate driving and moving and the radio stations and the total lack of customization in GTA4 but I can barely keep my hands off it and have been playing through it instead of renting games from my video store even after paying 15$ for a 50% discount for 30 days lol.

This. Luckily, I've not had anything spoiled about either one. I haven't started KotOR II yet, and I've only made it part of the way through the first, but I would believe that they are worth playing, even for the experience, if the story was somewhat spoiled.

Exactly. Stories are meant to be experienced and re-told. Knowing the story and listening/reading/watching/playing it are two completely different things.

I depends on if someone spoiled it for me or I have played through it once myself. When someone spoils it for me (which TBH is me reading crap I shouldn't have in the first place, thus my own fault), I usually end up looking for it the whole time, thus missing all the fine points that hint on it, pretending I know it all... The second, I know it is coming, but I enjoyed it so much the first time, I now spend more time trying to find the subtle hints that lead up to it. Which makes a replay still entertaining. If it is an amazing story though, and the gameplay is good, I'll replay it countless times... usually the shorter the story the more I'll replay it. Example: I'll replay a 6 hour campaign if the story AND gameplay are good. But if it is 40 hours, I'll probably only replay it once and then never feel like the investment is worth it to repeat it over and over.

I think they are, but they're certainly not as fun after.

I don't really care, Or rather I play to see if the spoiler was true or not. Manytimes they've been utterly false.

No. Story has many many many parts. Hehehehe. And sometimes the best parts aren't the main plot.

you can pretty much play earthbound even if you know every detail of the story
