What was the last strategy or tower defense game you were into? What made it unique or worth playing?
Is there anything new out there that has a fun merged genre?
Excluding SRPGs I assume, because Baldur's Gate III would have been an easy call-out.
As for raw stratagy; Total War continues to break records so that franchise speaks for itself. Then add that the original Plants Versus Zombies is one of the best selling games of all time, and continues to get new ports.
As for myself not much past Pixel Junk: Monsters 2, and I didn't stick with it honestly was fun though have played very similar games. Put about ten hours into it.
New Monster Hunter (Rise) has a tower defence quest type called Rampage. Which to me adds to the conversation. Throws all those features out the window for the actual serious hunts. . as they auto-bang at the front door regardless of how well you've defended the entrance. Redundant really, what is the point in defending if you let certain monsters bypass automatically?
Also just remembered playing some Stronghold: Warlords though a suggestion. Which wasn't bad, yet wasn't really grabbing me either. Probably played less than two hours, purely skirmish competitive.
Am typically more into Strategy RPGs like Disgaea, X Com, and Original Sin.
I like the Toy Soldiers games, I have the first two Xbox 360 XBLA games installed to my Series X external HDD. I also am in the middle of a Gears Tactics run, been a while but I love games like this or XCOM.
I don't really game on PC but I use to like RTS games. WH40K: Dawn of War was maybe last I was into. Didn't care for sequel felt more built for online PvP not a campaign.
Never got into Civ6 but did like Civilizations Revolution on Xbox 360 (also installed on my XSX). I keep restarting Halo Wars 2 playtbrouhhs but haven't completed it or started the DLC. I recently got gaming laptop got one of thr older Close Combat games right away. Want to look into Homeworld games next, use to love those and now they have been remastered.
Could never get into city/nation builders like Skyline but did try Surviving Mars on XB1 from Game Pass and liked it. Have pondered trying Frost Punk game. I have always wanted to try a Tropico and I have the 5th from a while ago but haven't ever committed to it yet.
Strategy is probably my favourite genre.
Civilization 6 with all the expansions is really great and has me currently hooked.
Really enjoyed Hearts of Iron III, and Hearts of Iron IV was alright too.
I love strategy games! Lately I've been playing Warcraft 2 and was wondering if there are new strategy games that are similar. I'd love a remastered Warcraft 2 that incorporates modern controls and UI.
Warcraft 3 was a disappointment for me since I don't like hero units and the progressive income tax so I never really played that.
I did buy Starcraft, Starcraft 2 and all the expansions and have played them a lot.
Isn't there anything newer that's good?
I love them, but haven’t played anything new. Been replaying Starcraft, Age of Empires Definitive Edition and Reforged.
Why hasn't there been a Starcraft 3, Warcraft 4, or a new Age of Empires game? I remember having a ton of strategy games to choose from, like Total Annihilation, Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, etc. Now there's nothing except replaying old games?

There is a new Age of Empires coming out late 2021. Hope it's not shit. As for Warcraft, I believe Blizzard won't make a sequel until WoW dies. But yeah, RTS is more niche now than ever it seems.
The last strategy game I played was Dawn of War 2. I had a lot of fun with it and the expansions. The absence of base building and the priority on managing the positioning of just three or four fire squads really streamlined things for me, it would probably make for a smoother transition from action genres.

Glad to hear there's a new Age of Empires game coming out! I never got into WoW or any of those MMO type games. I like to buy a game and then play it whenever I feel like. I love Starcraft with the campaign as well as playing multiplayer when I feel like playing. I hadn't played Starcraft in years and just started playing again with my brother.
Blizzard did a poor job with Warcraft 3 reforged, but at least they did something with it. Plus they did Starcraft remastered. I really want a Starcraft 3.
Yes but they’ve become a niche market. Games like Planet Coaster and Cities: Skylines are popular but only with a select crowd. There’s just too much competition these days.
Not to mention gamers are a lot dumber then they used to be and don’t have the intelligence for strategy games.
I like strategy as a whole, but I've definitely drifted away from RTS games and more towards TBS games and 4X strategy games (Stellaris, for example). Real-time and turn-based tactics are also great.
Probably one of my favorite genres, actually, if we lump in management/tycoon/god games in there (Factorio, Cities: Skylines, etc).
