How many times have you read the word "boring" when posters are describing games they've tried? The longer you've been exposed to gaming, the greater the chances are you'll become intolerant to certain types of games.

I've been gaming for decades and it seems I too have become jaded to a large portion of games that come out these days. The other day I tried a game I've been hearing a ton of positive feedback from: OlliOlli2. Played it for about ten minutes and deleted it. I also tried The Binding of Issac, The Swapper & Deadly Premonition after hearing and reading praise about, and hated them.

It's not just weirdo indie games that make my crap list, but a large majority of annual "aaa" games, for various reasons.

Do you think there's too many games parading around these days? We can't play everything, and maybe that's not such a bad thing. I guess I'm just set in my ways, and don't want to waste my time with games I don't enjoy.

Do you attempt to play everything you read about? Everything your friends and family are playing? What genres or series do you write off, or just not give the benefit of the doubt to?

I try any game that interests me. If it entertains me, I like it. Only genre I avoid is the fighting genre because it's just not my thing.

I am not sure that I would call myself jaded, but I am pretty darn unforgiving about the less desirable parts and flaws of a game.

But if it is jaded to be critical of a game and not give it a free pass? Doubt it.

When that is said, certain genres, and devs are dismissed outright by me, so maybe. I do not tend to tolerate bad writing, or suspension of a games own internal logic. I find faults in all games, and tend to voice them, in part because I know that devs are listening somewhere, and critique is taken up for consideration.

I am particularly jaded but I enjoyed Swapper. It was a bit rough on the first impressions but the gameplay is particularly solid.

I have very specific idea about what I like I my games so rarely do I try something new.... unless atleast on paper it sounds like its for me.

Edit: Also if people flat out lie about a specific game then that might lead to a jaded experience..... most notable example being Dark Souls.

I've become somewhat jaded regarding the online elements.

Even today, there's still a lot of people that don't have decent fucking internet and regularly get gypped on DLC and pretty much everything else that doesn't include buying the actual game (unless you have to download it of course...).

But other than that, not really. I always just try to enjoy any game that interests me and that's it. I try not to pay much attention to all the nonsense in gamer culture these days since it's become so full of little shits who don't know how to have fun anymore.

I can be picky on what I like in games. I must be one of the worst people in the world for not liking a game for silly reasons. But not sure if it has anything to do with being Jaded, if anything I feel I played so much I'm allowed to be picky.

A good example is how I don't like the original DMC Dante, the game Nier and the Witcher series because I don't like that weird "white hair on white guy who isn't even a proper albino" look. I'm not sure why that character design is so popular. Give them paler skin and red iris, or if they are grey because they are old make them look old! That's not what old people look like, get some crows feet in there.

@dylandr:

I'm the same way. I do understand though that everyone has a wide variety of opinions on anything that is everything and it can be near impossible to cater to everyone's wants. Therefore going with the generic formula that sells, but we can get those jewels from time to time and that's what makes it.

I know more about what I don't like than what I like. So I just avoid what I know that I previously didn't enjoy or just isn't interested in and move on. I'm also less and less interested in gaming in general as the games feels more and more like shiny empty shell since the 360/PS3 gen, while I did enjoy some games from those system, I also hate a lot of them.

I only play games that interest me. If a game is free that doesn't appear to interest me, I may try it out because I might actually like it. There are plenty of highly rated/reviewed games that I haven't liked or even been interested in enough to try. There are also lower rated games that I have really enjoyed. Reviews and peoples opinions tend to be subjective and biased. Gotta decide for yourself.

I'm not so much jaded towards the games as I am jaded towards the publishers, and the bullshit schemes they keep using to monetize their games.

No I'm not a jaded gamer despite having been an avid gamer for 35+ years. I know what I like and what I don't like but am pretty easy-going and enjoy a wide variety of games. I appreciate the complexity that goes into making games and understand that nothing is perfect so I don't sweat the small stuff.

I typically play it safe and play games I'm almost certain I'll enjoy. And when I try something new I'm generally positive about it. I still actually tend to see the good in games. I recognize flaws, sure. But I usually remember games by their good parts. I'm not one to just flat out say a game is "terrible" because of initial bad impressions or I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. No, for me to have an opinion on a game I try to make sure I've at the very least beat it. I'm fairly patient. I'll keep on going even if my experience hasn't been that great thus far. But usually games grow on me the more I play them, so that's why I put as much time into them as I can for maximum enjoyment.

Yes, but at this point I know what I like, so I just avoid certain developers and games altogether rather than setting myself up for disappointment.

I see no point to it. I go into each game that appeals to me knowing nothing but the name and the cover art. That journey of discovery is, be it experiencing the game first or trying to get into the developers head and observe the design later on, is a big part of my enjoyment

It's like when you were a kid and played a game for months and thought you knew everything, but still always had that sense of wonder throughout because of the inherent mystery a game presented. The Internet ruined this feeling for me because once you're here, you know everything is revealed in solid fact and all mysticism is gone instantly. Sure, you can restrain yourself from it, but still there's that subconscious thought that in the end you could always look up whether you're missing something or you're 100% complete. So yeah, you could say that we're all jaded in that sense i guess, but if you ask me, using the aforementioned approach works wonders in restoring that old sense in some capacity

Growing up with video games, I've developed a more specific framework for what constitutes a successfully crafted game in my eyes.

As my framework for what I find tolerable shrinks, I seem to find myself moving more and more towards Nintendo's offerings. They just produce the kind of games that nail almost every essential aspect of gaming that I've come to love and they are among the very few major developers that give you a full and complete experience on the disc you purchase. It's very rare that one of their games does not offer at least 80 hours of quality play and they aren't afraid to really challenge the player.

Not at all. I'm very optimistic, but cautious in way where I'm smart about my money. I'll ignore games that most will bash upon because I've grown out of them.

And have a knack of finding games I enjoy regularly. I thought 2014 for example, was a fun year in games.

The thing I'm most jaded about are actually jaded gamers, where I treat them in a condescending manner as I feel they're pretty narrow/ignorance when it comes to their game preferences.

Yeah...... I knew asking for an unpopular design choice in an already niche sub genre is asking for way too much......

But I want one Co-Op game in every genre.......

Just recently got one in stealth: Splinter Cell, and man it was two tons of fun.

Which only reinforces my belief of Co-Op making everything better.... a trait people don't particularly approve of in me. :(

I am nowhere near jaded, I have been gaming for 30 years and have gamed across all genres and all platforms and gaming gets me just as excited today as it did when I was a kid. With so much variety in gaming I can't fathom how anyone can ever get bored with gaming.

You are not wrong though, co-op does make just about everything better and I think we should have more co-op games, growing up my brother and I spent hours playing co-op nes games and I think it is a really cool thing that younger gamers are missing out on

I am glad i am not the only one who feel that way about all those indie games like Isaac, DP, Swapper, Fez, Don't Starve. etc......

But i dont think its because there are to many games coming out, its just age that plays a role, we all get older and change tastes and get more locked into what we like and dont like.

Also we cant play everything and looking at my backlog its just crazy , so even to attempt to play everything would mean no life and you would be locked in your basement 24/7.
