This article I saw on the MSN homepage, i'm sure some of you may have glanced at it. It documents the arrogance that surrounds the buildup of Halo 3 and some microsoft executives like Peter Moore here. Here is a few excerpts which backup my opinion of how ridiculous the whole situation has become:
"Peter Moore is corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft and is responsible for leading the Xbox and Games for Windows businesses. After last night, he's a rock star. Peter sat down for a conversation with us during the E3 summit and revealed, among other things, his Halo tattoo, why his daughter learned to play Halo and the preferred band for his ring tone."
"As a result, we have no shortage of celebrities who want to be involved with Halo.
[Moore's cell phone rings. His ring is Linkin Park's "What I've Done."] Sorry about that. Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands."
Tell me wtf does Linkin Park have to do with anything, is he trying to make himself "more attuned" to certain aspects of youth culture?
"With respect to Halo 3, are you worried about any competition? I don't worry about anybody taking on Halo in the FPS category. It's flattery that anybody would copy Halo."
Copy Halo? COPY HALO? Lord if other FPS producers COPIED HALO, I think we would all be disapointed.
What else can you tell us about the Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360 that you showed off for the first time last night? What I can tell you is that I wish I hadn't just stood there and held it, because nobody seemed interested. [We laugh.] We should've enlarged a picture last night. At the last minute, we decided, what the heck, let's hold it up. The bet was that I couldn't hold it up! I said, "Hey, I got my Halo tattoo on this arm!" We haven't given out much detail about it, but it is quite different.
*sigh* It's indeed sad to see much of the gaming industry becoming like Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, I love the story surrounding Halo, but it really is an average FPS game, with at best very few things other FPS games haven't already done better. The only thing driving it for me is its storyline, and so all this hype surrounding the Halo games seems a bit ridiculous in my eyes. Sorry if you don't agree.
