Ralph Baer
Shigeru Miyamoto
John Carmack
Koji Kondo
Nobuo Uematsu
Nolan Bushnell
Gary Gygax
Anyone have any other serious additions to this list?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Sid Meier,Peter Molyneux, any list without these two would be a shame.
between turn based strategy, and the "god" game, plus everything else, from Pirates to fable, the industry owes a lot to these two men,and harcore gamers owe them both a thank you at least.
And thread creator, while this is a good idea, you need to add more content to your post and encourage discussion, otherwise it becomes a list thread which is not allowed and will be locked.
[QUOTE="Video_Game_King"]Gygax? Either you confused tabletop roleplaying with video game roleplaying, or Gygax with Giygas :P.xZyos
Think of how much Gygax influenced games though.
Without him programmers, such as Carmack, may not have been so gaming inclined.
No, video games would still be what they are today. Sure, we wouldn't have Everquest, but with WoW, I think we can live with that.
Don't forget Satan.
LOL, just kidding. I dunno who to thank, but I honestly couldn't care less.
Games would be the same without Gygax? WTF?
Id personally like to add Warren Spector (and his often partner Doug Church) and Tim Schafer. I think Ragnar Tornquist will hopefully be a later addition (though his output isnt very large yet).
Sid Meier and Peter molyneux have already been mentioned but I might as well add my agreement.
Oh and how could anyone forget Richard Garriot?
PS: As a side note to the discussion ... do you think Games Designers will/should start becoming celebrities like film directors/producers? I think games are getting popular enough that this is a distinct possibility. Im not sure this would be such a good thing though. Not sure why ... I just have a feeling, cool as it would be, that it would have a negative impact on games development. (Maybe I should start a seperate thread?)

Without Gary Gygax, we wouldn't have "role-playing" games. That makes him a pretty big deal.I'm putting quotes around role-playing because there is no actual video game equivalent of a role-playing game.
