Gamerantwrote a cool article about it.
I think all of them would be terrific settings for AC3.
#4 is unlikely, though, since the Assassin's Creed comics are already covering it.
I think #3 would be more likely where it'll be or at least somewhere in England around the English Civil War. The time span between the first two games also makes the American Revolution time period the more logical choice. Still, great ideas from that website.Gamerantwrote a cool article about it.

WW1 or WW2 would be freakin awesome... but then the game would have to turn in to a shooter...
I guess industrial revolution will have to do...
Isn't Assassin's Creed a trilogy and the whole point of the animus is to train Desmond to become an assassin and gather information from his ancestor's memories to defeat the templars? If so, shouldn't #3 have Desmond as the main character this time around in the present day, or did I miss something?
AC3 will finish Desmond's story, correct, but it will also feature a different time period and a new ancestor.Isn't Assassin's Creed a trilogy and the whole point of the animus is to train Desmond to become an assassin and gather information from his ancestor's memories to defeat the templars? I do not trust that Assassin Creed will be a trilogy. They have the right to change their minds find they think it is for best.
If they did WW2 then it would be The Saboteur.
I would not mind the American Revolution.
Well, the "trilogy" part was already modified. Assassin's Creed has already 3 main games. Despite not having a number nor featuring a new ancestor, Brotherhood is a full main game of the series.Egypt in the time of pharoahs & pyramids would be quite good i think.

that would be amazing but I think AC will go forward in time, not backwards. i'm really hoping for either the Russian revolution, or some setting in Britain. however I think they are considering doing it in aztec/mayan/inca times, because they referred to the nazca lines in AC2 i think, so maybe they would go there. but as for their european influence, that would contradict this theory
the ending of the game suggests the French Revolution. Shaun is talking about the point in history where the phrygian cap and the masonic eye first come together before he is cut off. That point would be in the fundamental document of the French Revolution, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, seen below. (Top center is the combination of the cap and eye)
The phrygian cap was worn by freed slaves of the Roman empire to mark them as emancipated, and this is probably where the cap first becomes associated with the concept of liberty. It was also worn by French revolutionaries, later, to mark their solidarity.
Paris à la the three Musketeers. It is set about 100 years after AC2 so that would be a reasonable jump in time. There are guns, but fencing is still important. Guns is good because it can force stealth in a more natural way IMO (like in Arkham Asylum). I would love to climb Notre Dame and swing in the bell ropes like a good old hunchback!
If you are going back in time, I could see the following settings.
But so far he has only progressed forward in time, which means none of the previous are very likely.
I highly doubt we are ever going to see Japan with Desmond.
I definitely think it will be post AC:B, wouldn't make an awful lot of sense to double back to before the crusades were you already got the first clues to get the final piece of the puzzle. Im guessing for either the french, british or Russian civil war. Of course it doesn't necessarily have to be right in the wars, Assassins Creed 2 didn't have any major historical event to lean up against other than being in the middle of the renessance which afterall lasted around 2-300 years if i recall correct.
That's what I was thinking. What Shaun was saying would be the hint.the ending of the game suggests the French Revolution. Well i'd like to see us go back to ancient Rome or Greece cause that could help them understand some of the beginnings of the Apples.
Also would be nice to do
American Revolution
French Revolution and Napoalenic Era
English Civil War
Japan with the influence of Europeans
I would LOVE for it to take place in Egypt, but it will be taking place in the French Revolution for sure.
The developers said in an interview that Assassin's Creed could go to Egypt or France next, both being favorites at the studio.

AC:Brotherhood Spoilers
In the emails you can read William is somewhere in Europe and says something like once you locate the piece of eden we will see you soon.
It basically tells you that after AC:Brotherhood they are going to meet up with William somewhere else in Europe and since the French Revolution is already mentioned as an internal studio favorite there is little doubt. They are probably already working on it.
I really think it makes more sense to go the Egypt because all the mythology is already there. At that point in time the "gods" could still be alive possibly, but even if they aren't Egyptian mythology is perfect to expand the "gods" storyline and pyramids make perfect places for the Vaults discussed at the end of Assassin's Creed 2. They will go to Egypt eventually either in the comic or a movie or something, but the next game will be in the French Revolution I can guarantee you. They basically have already said it will be so there is no point debating unless some new information comes out.
The French Revolution could be cool because gameplay will have to change drastically and become MUCH more modern especially when it comes to guns and war, but we are getting closer and closer to religion and mythology giving way to reason and atheism. The closer you get to present times the harder it is going to be to keep up the mythology aspect. Plus Assassin's Creed was meant to be a Trilogy and for the story to end well with things wrapped up a LARGE portion of AC3 is going to have to take place in 2012. They know where all the vaults are thanks to the vision at the end of AC2 and they know where several pecies of eden are. They have to stop the cataclysm and that can only really happen in present time for them, but gameplay will have to change A LOT for that too because of modernization of weaponry. If you noticed in AC:Brotherhood you can't die when you play in the present as Desmond.
