Hi, I was thinking of getting a 4 controller port atari 5200 because it is compatible with all the games. I was wondering if the controller that came with will kill it or it can be fixed by buying a 3rd party controller?

The 5200 can only play 5200 games. 3rd party controllers for it are much better than even a working original controller, but as such will run you usually over $50. You may be thinking of the 7800, that can play both 2600 and 7800 games.

I am fairly certain that the standard sega genesis controller is compatible with the 5200, as demonstrated in the Angry Video Game Nerd video on the subject.
