Atmospheric games with lots of side quests that take place mainly in cities

What are some good, atmospheric games with lots of side quests? Preferably ones that take place mainly in big cities. Ones like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines or to a lesser degrees (it is atmospheric and good, but not as many side quests) Deus Ex.

If by Cities, do you mean in large towns like in Medieval games or Skyscrapers modern Cities?

In games like Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there were lots to do in Novigrad, Novigrad is the largest city in the game but however, in the expansion pack Blood & Wine, the city Toussaint is by far the largest city in the entire game and there were lots of side quest within the city I did.

Assassin's Creed games, especially anything before Black Flag, take place in cities for the most part. Unity, Syndicate, etc are good options for exploring a beautifully rendered Paris or London.

The Division? has side quests, takes place in New York

@davillain-: Well, the games I mentioned were more modern. One is a cyberpunk, the other takes place at night time in LA but thanks to the supernatural elements it has some good atmosphere. I'm looking for all kinds of settings, besides maybe two:
1) Medieval fantasy setting, unless it somehow manages to be unique like Morrowind.
2) Nothing like GTA, modern setting but without much atmosphere to it

Besides that everything is fine. I have read some of the wither books but never could get into it, so that's why I rather won't play the games

I hope Pokemon on Switch would be like that. But for current games I'll pick Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

Medieval fantasy? Well, avoid Witcher 3 is my first advice. While the countryside in the game is awesome, the big cities were really dull places...

Baldur's Gate 2, Dragon Age 1&2, Neverwinter Nights games are some classic high fantasy games where lot of the action takes place in atmospheric towns and cities. I would not put Morrowind there, as the cities in it were rather drab and empty.

AC games are all very good, with great atmospheric towns.

@bush_dog:I have played Skyrim and as I mentioned I didn't like the Witcher books so I don't plan on playing the games.

@henrythefifth: I have played the rpgs you mentioned, but I'm rather tired of medieval european fantasy settings. I prefer something different, how Deus Ex is cyberpunk, Fallout is retro-post-apocalyptic, VtMB is supernatural LA at night or Planescape and Morrowind are very weird fantasy. Don't even have to be rpgs, Majora's Mask or Okami had several side quests, (but not really big cities)

I did play the first AC game, but with the second I got tired of the concept. I mean enough is enough.

I only read on e Witcher book and I can only tell you the games are nothing like the books, Witcher 3 does it's own thing, I totally give it a chance cause the game itself does justice compare to the books.

Also, have you ever play Mirror's Edge? That game has lots of quest, even though it's first-person-view but it's a cool game that focus on the city itself. Another game called Watch Dogs has tones of side quest within the city of Chicago, totally look into that and I enjoy the game.

Witcher 3 or Assassin's Creed Syndicate would be my best suggestions. Both have a lot to offer, but the Witcher 3 has the most for you to do.

How about Dead Rising 3 and 4?

Late arrival and not sure why it hasn't been brought up but what I'm getting here is you want your standard open world RPG tropes like buying, levelling, conversation heavy, stats, but more futuristic than the overused Medieval setting?

Seeing as you ask for cities; and as someone who also enjoys the Deus Ex series I'm going to go out and recommend a very Action focused RPG_

I would recommend Dying Light and even Dead Island/Dead Island Riptide. As others have said the Assassins Creed games-I personally did not like the first one, but the other ones added a lot of content from side missions to upgrading your gear. Both Watchdogs games and Deus Ex games are pretty fun too. The Prototype and Infamous games are alright as well. If you want a unique open city game, check out The Saboteur (WW2 occupied Paris).

@with_teeth26: My mind was racing trying to think of a game and then I saw this and was like, man... DUH! Great call. This got some recent updates I have heard and there are still quite a few people who still play so it may even be safe to say that at this point it is better than it was when it was released.

The thing I always struggled with was being permanently stuck in winter. I always wished that they would find a way to bring seasons into the game even though I knew that was a little unrealistic for me to want.
