so im finding the riddler puzzles and just got to the part where you glide towards the cemetry are outside near the start. My question is that are you able to return to old area to solve more puzzles etc?

Yeah, you'll be able to return to any area you've visited previously.

That's not correct. The Bat Cave and it's structure will change after Poison Ivy's appearance, so make sure you have it cleared before you get there.
