I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this, what happened? Share your thoughts. Here are mine:

- It looks great!

- The weapons are interesting and something that just hasn't been available in fps before...they also lead to a slower, more thoughtful gaming approach.

- Classes feel different but

- The sniper is just way too powerful. Even after all the weapon unlocks on the last day of the beta, the sniper was still better than any other weapon/class available

- This brings me onto the map, I know we only played one but it became an absolute kill fest for whoever started off as a sniper and started camping out on the mountains. Almost every match became the exact same situation, if your not a sniper, run and hide and wait for tanks to take out the snipers, rinse and repeat.

Genuine curiosity: What platform did you play on and what made you feel that the snipers are too powerful? Reason is that I did not notice this at all in the Beta (played on PC). And maybe I got lucky. That is totally possible. The matches never revolved around the mountains for me.

I really liked the Beta. And have no complaints aside from technical ones: The weather effect not being applied to all players and the hard freezes I got, and having some difficulties logging in to EA. I expect these things to get fixed before launch.

Oh actually I do have a legit complaint. Yes... and this was a problem before Battlefield 1. I really want to know whether you noticed this as well: When someone shoots behind you, you barely hear it. Or you don't hear it. So many times did someone shoot me point blank in a house and my teammate was standing close to us in that same house -in the same room, sometimes. I've had people emptying full clips into me where I stood so close to my teammate that I could poke him with a stick and yet they did not notice the epic firefight going on behind their back, at all. I understand that war is loud, but I do consider this a fault of the game. It would be much easier for squads to co-operate (and I think even more realistic?) if they could hear more clearly the things happening in close proximity. I imagine that even in WW1 the soldiers would notice a loud gun going off several times behind their back especially in an enclosed space.

I have to admit I did not change the audio format much. I tried Home Cinema and Hi Fi. They both had that problem.

On a positive note: The Beta ran beautifully on my 780Ti and it was a lot of fun.

I think in all the matches I played I only got taken out by a tank twice. I like the fact a headshot from a sniper rifle is a 1 shot kill, not to mention if you take the time to sneak around and take us on in close combat there's a 95% chance we get destroyed. It's not like CoD where you can quick scope to kill someone regardless of range.

I think you severely underestimate how difficult it is to pull off a headshot on an enemy who is at times 200-300 yards away and moving. It's not like Call of Duty where you line the crosshairs over someones head and get a headshot, you have to adjust for bullet drop, while also considering that the elevation difference between you and your target may change how you line up that shot for the bullet drop, while also calculating how far ahead of the enemy you have to shoot so the bullet arrives at the same time the enemy does.

Some examples:

Loading Video...

Notice how I have to aim several feet in front of the enemy and well over his head just to get a connection with his torso. I was actually trying for a headshot on both attempts.

Loading Video...

Not nearly as far for this shot, but notice because my elevation is about 30-50 ft higher I don't have to aim so high to get a headshot, though I still have to shoot about 2-3 feet in front of the player to make the shot.

Loading Video...

Different console(previous 2 were PS4, this is on Xbox). Unlike the other two I am now much higher than the enemy, so I have to aim for their mid-section and about a foot ahead of them to get the headshot.

So yeah, the sniper can take out an enemy in one shot and make things difficult for you, but the amount of work and level of challenge for us is much greater than it would be to rush in with an SMG or LMG. I'll have 10 bullets and only shoot one at a time, all the targets are fairly far away, and the amount of adjustments you have to make on a moving target can be incredibly challenging. Also keep in mind all of my matches Monday & Tuesday combined I had about 30 kills and only 6 deaths across 6 matches, most of the machine gunners get 15-20 kills per match if their half decent.

Good game. I like the new gameplay with the powerful tanks.

The planes are cool too.

And I don't found the snipers op, just correct.

I loved it.

Honestly didn't find snipers over powered. I was only ever killed by them when I was out in the open or in a stupid position asking to be shot.

However on the other side of that I did find the sniping to be a little easier than in BF3 or BF4.

Really enjoyed it. Not enough to make me want to pay full price ($130). I'll get it when I can get the whole game for 60/80 or so, and let them iron out the bugs after release. Don't expect things to run well at launch.

I played on PS4 first and then on PC just for the heck of it lol Looked great on both and in terms of technical issues that can blight some betas, I didn't see many, apart from weird, faceless co pilots, which was creepy as hell.

In terms of the snipers, it was a real issue in a large number of games I played and just scouring the dark recesses of the internet, a lot of other gamers have the issue. I'm sure on smaller maps that won't be as much of an issue but with conquest, we're always going to get pretty large maps. I hope EA do start to balance things out a little. Maybe you were lucky that there weren't too many sniper spawns in the games you played.

In terms of the sound, I experienced that issue a few times on the PC but never on the PS4, maybe because with the console I was playing on a big screen tv. I dunno, it wasn't much of an issue.

I'm just going to add that when the game is in full flow and both sides have their tanks and armored vehicles on the map, with planes dog fighting over head and you just manage to see the glint of a snipers lens, dodge the bullet, scope up and take him out...it's a thing of beauty.

There's a lot of work to be done but with EAs pedigree in this series, I'm sure the mp will be the best since 1942 or COD:MW2. The single player is what worries me.

Great videos but I honestly found it pretty easy to hit enemy targets even when they were moving. I wouldn't get a head shot all the time but getting in enough shots to take him down was not difficult at all. Especially if I climbed the peak near outpost F. Once while I was up there, I took out 10 enemies (3 of them were the same guy lol) and I only dies because of my own stupidity and not checking my rear.

Which brings me on to agreeing with you. If you're not careful and allow enemies to get too close, a sniper can be taken out. I did that to a fair few snipers myself. Just clubbed them into oblivion.

Well, considering large chunks of the map are "out in the open" that leaves a lot of space to get killed, especially if you're not traveling with a vehicle. Again, that might just be an issue with sinai and I'm hoping to see more maps.

@soul_starter:

Yeah but getting shot by snipers in the open secction of the map is to be expected. If I was getting killed in around buildings and other areas of cover a lot then maybe I'd agree but open areas are exactly where a sniper should be hitting you .

I understand what you are saying though to some extent like some of the flags are very hard to take on conquest because of snipers. Another thing is that there isn't that much zoom on the scopes in bf1 so only skilled snipers are actually troublesome . Most of the guys I killed as a sniper were literally standing still in the open or behind cover with half there body sticking out.

Also isn't this a complaint with every battlefield? I thought that snipers were way too powerful in BF4 IN particular until I learned to deal with them.

@ningyupowadat: Yeah, I guess it's a particular problem on this map. Maybe if EA had released one more map we would've had a better understanding of gaming classes.

In terms of BF4, I haven't played a game in the series since Bad Company. I didn't like BF3 and 4s pseudo COD direction. I'll be getting back into the series, probably on PC with BF1.
