I'm looking for some beautiful pc games. Preferably with 2d graphics, not 3d. Examples of those that I have played would be: Hollow Knight, Transistor, Limbo, Dust: an Elysian Tail (didn't really like the character designs, but people always bring it up), Amber Throne, Bastion, Rayman Origins/Legends, Child of Light or Ori and the Blind Forest.

I do prefer when the aesthetics has a bit more detail and texture as the above as opposed to something like Cuphead (which I still enjoyed visually, just in another way) or Castle Crashers. But it still has to be stylized and not hyperrealistic as the ones above.

@javik: An easy duo to recommend because both are considered classics. And these are remakes of masterpieces. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition a game built for mouse support and its sequel Monkey Island 2. Very beautiful games. You can get them bundled on Steam or GoG from my knowledge.

An Early Access game called The Vagrant is also a looker. Is rough around the edges gameplay-wise (Early Access) plus suppose it's considered a shameful Vanillaware rip-off game (Dragon's Crown/ Odin Sphere). However still worth looking into, seeing as more games 'like' Vanillaware masterpieces isn't a bad thing in my view. And currently Vagrant is only on P.C.

If you have a PS3/PS4/ or Vita? I would recommend looking into Vanillaware games as they are better games, even the upcoming 13 Sentinels. But alas, I understand this is a P.C. focused thread.

Lastly and most important. Owlboy. Just do yourself a great service and check it out, a beautiful game and one of my personal favorites from 2016. It's not a hand drawn marvel like the other three games mentioned, but the pixel art is beautiful and animates gracefully. If I had to pick one game from this list that deserves a shot; and to try out? It's Owlboy!

@RSM-HQ: Thanks, I have played Monkey Island, I always wanted to play Dragon's Crown so the Vagrant seems like a good alternative for now. Owlboy looks cool as well.

I kind of like Halcyon 6, the action animations are cool, and I like the visuals

Not sure if it counts (are the characters 3D? Maybe?) but the environments are all beautifully hand-drawn in Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny.

There's also Terraria and Starbound

Probably under praised the game, as I really enjoyed my time playing The Vagrant. Vanillaware Games are just better visually and have better polish, but comparing a small group of 8 people compared to a 70+ team is a little unfair. Besides, I believe the team is actually making this game to get Vanillawares attention anyway for employment.

Regardless OTK Games did get a publisher for The Vagrant near the end of 2017 to back them (SAKURAGAME). So Vagrant will be a complete game at some point and far more polished than it currently is.

It's a fun beauty, but as it stands; so long as you take it for what it is, and don't expect too much? You won't be disappointed.

At some point I expect it to be a hidden gem. Yet right now, it's a sample experience of what could-be.

Is it a Dragon's Crown? No, Dragon's is a modern day Golden Axe, and my view of Beat em' Up perfection. Vagrant is closer to Odin Sphere, story heavy and combat more rooted to skill-trees. It's look however is very Vanillaware and to me that's a plus. A tad copy and paste 'maybe' but I'm not complaining_

This war of mine.

I like it just because it is so true. It is cruel indeed, but looting is so much fun, lol.
