I've finished a lot of hard games over the years. Ninja Gaiden NES is defenetly at the top of the list. Castlevania NES is another one at the top of my list of hard games.

Castlevania 3 is one game I couldn't beat when I was a kid. I got to the part where the blocks fall from above and I gave up. I'm going to give it another try soon. I plan on starting a NES collection and Castlevania 3 is at the top of the list. I also need to beat Rondo of Blood and SOTN. I quit playing casltevania after dracula X came out on the SNES. I didn't know about Rondo and I didn't like SOTN because it was so differnet to the prior games. I've changed my opinion of SOTN. I finished Simons Quest with no help what so ever. It took me 10 hours to figure out the tornado part.Â[QUOTE="jdc6305"]

I got as far as the final stage, though I don't think I have beaten it because I was just getting too annoyed.Â
As for the TC, play the NES Ghosts N Goblins. And you have to get the real ending as well.
Definitely try Viewtiful Joe on Ultra V Rated... despite its "newer" feeling, it's pretty old school and tough as balls.
Most recently, beating Pokemon Stadium 2 Round 2 with rental Pokemon...damn that game was so cheap. Â The hardest ones I've beaten are that, Zelda II, Mega Man 1, F-Zero GX, Super Star Wars, Double Dragon, Mega Man X (just for the final boss), and probably Demon's Souls. Â
I'm a big Castlevania fan but haven't played III yet and want to do so, even with its notoriety for being very difficult.

I can get to his third form, but by then I'm pretty much almost dead. I tried beating him for about a month before calling it quits.Â
I like the metroidvania games, but I like the linear, older style of Castlevania games better. Symphony of the Night is definitely the best in terms of metroidvania games, and other than Order of Ecclesia I had a hard time getting into the other GBA and DS Castlevania games. They are also pretty difficult.

I like the new ones better, but they are, as a general rule, easier. Â The NES games controlled rather poorly. Â The jumping was atrocious. Meanwhile the controls for the new ones are more or less perfect.
How did you come out of homelessness? Rattlesnake_8Oh, I sent an interprovincial job application using the Internet at the public library and got the job. Since the position paid well, I moved; welfare paid for my trip. Within a week I was fired because my direct superior got jealous of my capacity. I saved the company tens of thousands of dollars on my 1st week compared to the nothing she contributed in her 2 years of employment. It sucks. : '( But now I am in my home town so I am getting some help from friends. How is everyone enjoying the playthroughs? o^_^o Opinions and suggestions are always welcome! I'm thinking of doing Jurassic Park 2 (SNES) someday. DJ-Lafleur, you suggested I try Ghosts And Goblins but I don't understand why you need to beat the game twice. It doesn't look like an enjoyable game but rather seems like a prank from CAPCOM. Are any of the Resident Evil games considered hard?
Castlevania III. Good to see I'm not the only person here who finds that game to be past the point of being brutal.

I don't get on very well when people talk about "hardest games" 100% of the time they start bringing up games which really aren't that hard at all. Nothing on the NES is even close to as hard as the games I grew up playing on C64 and Spectrum.
Try The Adventures of Batman & Robin on the genesis. The game is impossible to beat normally.Soulreavercross
Easy game, I can do it without using a continue.
Make sure you pick up every power-up when its the same colour (preferably all green).
Everyone keeps saying Castlevania 3... I would not spend a penny on that game; it doesn't seem very appealing. I'm not James Rolfe; the games I want to cover have to be tolerable, but hard. Someone suggested Ghosts And Goblins, buuut that's even worse. I was thinking my next game to cover should be Gradius 3. That game is tolerable, hard, so it works. I borrowed a copy and have been playing it a while. Well at least I know some people are liking the show. That makes me happy.Rain_of_Miami
Castlevania 3 is actually a good game, more than tolerable. It's funny that you completed Ninja Gaiden, but Castlevania is a very similar game that you won't approach.
Peddling your recent homelessness seems a little tasteless and gauche to me but like the idea of the show. Maybe a DMC game on hardest difficulty setting.
You should try Alien Resurrection on the Ps1 and Epheremal Fantasia on the Ps2.
The first one is very, very hard, until you reach level 7 which is next to impossible.
As for Ephemeral Fantsia, I guarantee you can't possibly reach the end without a game guide.Â

Well you did say "hardest games ever conceived" both of those fit the bill pretty well and they're solid games.

You know what's funny is for how difficult Castlevania III is I had far more trouble completing Bloodlines with Morris. Â Don't know what it is about that game but it kicked my ass.
Also for anyone having trouble with Castlevania I or III... holy water.
Seriously.
Holy Water. Â One of the most broken items I've ever had the pleasure of using in a game.
"Hardest" and "SNES" is the same sentence just doesn't work.
When I eventually got a SNES after owning a Genesis back in the day I blazed through SNES games.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts was pretty tough, tbh.
Also, Darius Twin and U.N. Squadron.

UN Squadron gave me some problems admittedly, but from what I've played of it, it doesn't stack up to Gaiares in difficulty at all, I get the feeling that Hellfire, and Eliminate Down are probably harder too.

Sure you did.My personal choice:
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Sega Master System)
I have no idea how I managed to beat this game as a kid, but I remember it being very difficult and even unfair (especially the random rock-paper-scissors boss battles). I tried playing it again a few years ago and could barely get past the first level or two without save states (in other words, I've gotten very rusty over the years).
i beat super mario without dying once back on the snes omg then when i got my n64 goldeneye just got me so frustrated control alone i beat agent and secret no problem but once i got to 00 quite a few levels were so hard i just skipped them and did the easier ones first ended up w jungle control aztec
train and depot left at that point i just gave up until i got my first pc that game took me ten years to beat those 4 levels
Wah, cry, whine etcCecilChups
I suggest you play some actual difficult games.
Gaiares on Genesis is considerably harder than the games brought up, I can barely get to stage 3
Kid Chameleon, which I've also completed is harder than both Ghouls N' Ghosts games (but not Ghosts N' Goblins, which is legitimately hard, and next to imposible on ZX Spectrum, which I owned it on when I was a kid).
The 1st Ecco the Dolphin is considerably harder than most of these games (only on Genesis, Sega CD version had checkpoints)
Eternal Champions is harder than most of these games (haven't done)
Chakan is harder than most of these games
Undeadline is tougher than the games mentioned (I haven't done)
Hellfire is tougher than the games mentioned (I haven't done)
Dark Castle is horrible
That's just Genesis games
Try playing Armalyte on the Amiga, or just about anything on the Spectrum.

They're not random, each guy chooses the same things the first time you meet them.
Every time you get to a guy make a note of what he does and you're sorted (the next time).

tbh, Spectrum games were hard because how slow and irresponsive they were... :P
tbh, Spectrum games were hard because how slow and irresponsive they were... :Pnameless12345
Sometimes, but often they'd just throw enemies from two opposite directions at you simultaneously, or push you close to the edge of the screen to avoid an obvious hazard, and then throw loads of enemies at you oncoming from that edge giving you no reaction time, or there'd give you an object that would look like a prize, but which would instantly kill you if you tried to collect it, or there'd a be a teleporter that sent you back multiple levels if you used it, or the game would be 20 hours long but you'd only get 3 lives to do it in, or enemies would rush you and there'd take so many hits that you'd be shooting the hell out of them but there'd still run you down before you could kill them, or you, the enemies, and the bullets were all the same colour and everything was impossible to make out.
Dave Perry (the programmer of Earthworm Jim), made a Spectrum game where the end boss had infinite health, just becuase he ran out of time to actually finish the game and didn't want anyone to find out the game wasn't finished

Yes, I think I remembered the pattern when I was a kid, but I've forgotten it completely since then.
Try playing R-Type on the ZX Spectrum. Or Shadow of the Beast 1/2 on the Amiga. Without cheats or save games. Impossible.
