In here it doesn't have to be the best game EVER or the best story, should have an awsome ending and have you remember it for years to come.

BEST ENDINGS: PORTAL ("I'm Still Alive" Credits)

METAL GEAR 3 (Everything at the end of the game was awsome, from the last few boss fights to ending scenes)

HALF LIFE 2

NEED FOR SPEED CARBON (Last Chase was cool)

Conker's Bad Fur Day

The game starts with an movie that takes place after the events in the last level. They make conker all grumpy and jaded. Its seems funny because he's a cute squirrel and its an homage to a movie. The whole game is light-hearted and a joke. Even the last boss fight is comedic. But then after you beat it, events happen that make the story very depressing. Its like the song, "Mad World" should be playing at the end. Its really weird because the shift in tone is so drastic.

Thats the only ending I can think of that was notable to me. Most other endings are happy or the goal of you playing the game is completed so its basically what you expected

  • Shadow of the Colossus ~ An epic ending to an epic game. "The Sunlit Earth" track combined with the imagery is a sight to behold.
  • ICO ~ Very image heavy, not as moving as Shadow but amazing.
  • Doom ~ After going through hell you are treated to the vision of a cute little bunny rabbit. How sweet...
  • StarCraft ~ One of the best game endings ever. Contains massive spoilers
  • Super Metroid ~ "Mission Complete" After going through what you do in that game, you get to see a large explosion and are given a sweet reward for playing the game quickly.

City of Villains; it never ends. :)

If it ends, then BG2: Throne of Bhaal and other games such as this one are usually neat. You have a global ending, an explanation of many plots/situations and how your party's member end their career after you are gone. ToEE was great for that as well.

See, you become a God, everything is good everywhere...But then you read Something likes: Aerie will never truly recover your disparition, she understand it was for the greater good, but she will never be the same again. Gah! This is not overly negative compare to the series of good ending (other good characters as well), but at the same time...you go...doh! :P It is a trade-off.

Final Fantasy III for SNES. It wrapped up the story, had epic beautiful music, and was almost 20 minutes long.

Im sticking with PORTAL as a game that has one of the best credits songs EVER

I also Liked Devil May Cry 3, Half Life 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, and last but not least, Jak 3

I remembered Jak 3 and it was one of the few games that had you satisfied in the end. You all should've tried it.

The first game to come to mind is the original Metal Gear Solid. I don't really remember the final scene, but the spoken dialogue after the credits really caught me by surprise. That may not be the best ending, but it's definitely the most memorable for me.

The ending of the Halo series was very memorable to me.

I also liked the ending to Gunstar Heroes. I finished it when I was seven, and it was the first game where the ending made me cry.

2. The ending of Mafia (**spoiler** the hero being killed by the mob unexpectedly)

Final Fantasy III. You know how every game leaves you wondering what happened to all of the characters you came to care about? This game doesn't. It shows you more of each character and the ending alone is something like 20+ minutes of glory.

Whenever I think of good endings Super Mario Bros 2 is the first thing that pops into my head. Not only was it one of the first games I played that had an ending that was more than just the characters waving at the screen and saying congratulations, but it had amazing graphics and really was kind of unexpected.

For more modern examples though God of War was fantastic. Not that you didn't see it coming from the start, but it was just done perfectly. I'd also say that Kingdom Hearts full ending (with that bonus preview of KH II) was great. Despite taking the "you have to get the next game to see how it ends" approach, it was very satisifed with the ending instead of left frustrated waiting for a sequel.

Portal was a good one, alright. Planescape Torment had a weird and satisfying ending to it. Both God of Wars, especially the first one, did a good job of making the player feel as if he just went through hell and got what he deserved.

I'd put Metal Gear Solid 3, but I haven't played through it yet (don't worry, it's at the top of my list with Ninja Gaiden Sigma).

As for my list, here goes for now:

  • Chrono Trigger (well, at least the idea of multiple, multiple endings)
  • Final Fantasy III/VI
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • I also agree about Super Mario Bros. 2, a highly underrated game with a great ending (better than the "yay, you rescued Peach, the end" endings the early Mario games had)
  • I enjoyed the end to Metal Gear Solid 2, if it was kinda crazy (but, the entire game was kinda crazy, so I guess it fit)
  • God of War and God of War 2...like someone earlier said, not because they were surprising, but because they were pulled off almost perfectly and were almost unbelievably EPIC
  • Earthbound! (why haven't they released another "Mother" game in the US? WHY??)
  • Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (The ending seemed to fit the game, quick and dark)
That's all I have for now, but I'm sure I can come up with more if given the time.

So you've never finished MGS3 then I take it.

Although I will give it to you, that game had a nice ending.

MGS3, really, one of a kind...

There's simply no other gamethat so flawlesly combines so many emotions... and the ending, oh my god, i mean the last two hours of the game are absolutelly gorgeous, both epic and lyric, and at the very end everything is still unexplained and then in the last 15 minutes all the little pieces of the puzzle form the shape of the sad and emotionalstory of true patriotism, heroism and self sacrifice that leaves you litterally drained of emotions.

I have to go with God of War. I think that game has one of the most well-crafted stories I have ever witnessed in a video game, and I loved the ending. Let's hope the movie doesn't suck!

When you find out what the Boss really was, that actually brought a tear to my eye, when Naked Snake saluted. That was something else.

My favorite game from a story, cinematics and gameplay standpoint. Everything about MGS3 was/is epic. MGS4 is going to be hard pressed to topple that.

The last few hours of KOTOR were incredible for those who didn't have the big twist ruined for them (grr...). MGS games have always had a great way of wrapping up as well, specifically the First/Third.
