When I started playing my dad had an NES and a Genesis. If I remember correctly I played the Gen first because it had Sonic and my dad only had sports games for NES (at the time).

Mine was the SNES. Check out the Woot Legacy forums post for a bunch of other peoples first systems.

My favorite so far is the X-Box 360...Don't know why, I've just never had so many hours of enjoyment on a console until the 360.

Playstation 2. I've never spent the amount of hours on ANY other console and I doubt I ever will.

My top 3 favourites games of all time were on the SNES,

Super Mario World
Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger

plus dozens of other amazing games. the SNES is by far the clear winner for me, though no system in existance is "bad" persay.

I'd have to say PS2, from all previous generations (excluding PS3, X360 and Wii).

I have to go with NES or SNES. Both have a staggering amount of awesome games. I probably lean more towards the SNES though.

I'd have to say that my favorite system of all time is the Sega Mastersystem. But the best system ever is the Playstation 2, for the huge library of great games, and the fact that it's completely compatible with the PSone.

Definitely N64, no contest. I've spent countless hours with that thing and I still play it. My brother, sister, and I used to play multiplayer on it almost daily. Many of its games are still some of the best around. My favorite N64 games:

  • GoldenEye 007
  • The World is not Enough
  • Mario Kart
  • Mario Tennis
  • Mario Golf
  • Super Mario 64
  • StarFox 64
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (also 1 & 3, but 2 is my fav)

and the list just goes on...

If I can count the fact that the PS2 plays PS1 games, I'd say my favorite system was the PS2. If I have to go off of that console's games exclusively, I'd say the PS1. Tons and tons and tons of great RPGs, plus Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games of all time. A close second would be the SNES for its great RPGs as well.

C'mon...the PS1 was good competition to the SNES. I personally enjoyed the PS1 slightly more, as I've already said, but the SNES was a close second.

I can't speak for the PS1 as I've never played it. However, that was really a period of transition for most companies (2D to 3D), which resulted in ugly games (especially due to Sony's early anti-2D feelings). The SNES had great looking games. The closest thing to it, I think, is the PS2 (although I do want to see how the Wii finishes things, just so the PS2 may go to #3, mabye).

Well, then, I'd feel a bit foolish calling the SNES the best system if I'd never played a system as groundbreaking and awesome as the PS1. Find a place where you live that sells PS1 games and get some to play in your PS2. If you're into RPGs, I'd suggest the Final Fantasy games. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is also excellent considering your sig reminds me of Castlevania.

I'd want to play the PS1, but I don't want to use eBay yet (must find things out about selling), my local Blockbuster went out of business, and the two GameStops sell nothing below PS2 (except Game Boy games on display behind glass).

I am pretty sure PS1 emulators are legal as long as you have a real CD to play it with. I played FF7 (Ps1 disk) on an emulator on my PC and it ran better than it does on the PS1.

You don't need to register on Amazon to buy off of Amazon, but if you're gonna play them a different way, then I suppose that information is worthless to you.

N64. My PS2 was cool and all but the controllers and system itself have terrible durability. My N64 is like a break. I could probably drop it 50 ft and it'd still work as good as new. Plus, N64 had the best games. SNES is up there too.

NES - Two of the best games of all time, SMB and SMB3. Still fun to play plus got me started in console gameing. The SNES had SMW and Mario Kart that were two of my favorites, the multiplatform games I usually got for Genesis for some reason. Sonic on there was always fun too. The 360 does get more use then any of my systems ever did though, but I still pick up the classics too.

It is easily the SNES for me.

Super Mario World
EarthBound
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario Allstars
Street Fighter II
Super Mario RPG
Super Metroid
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mario Paint
Secret of Mana
Donkey Kong Country
etc.

There's a reason it's known as the golden age of gaming. My second pick is a tough battle between the N64, PS1, and PS2.

although Playstation Emulators are easy to find, ROMS are not, legal or otherwise, plus they are often riddled with problems. they are not stable like SNES or NES ROMS. I would reccomend just buying the games.

:)The Atari was my first system. Comador 2600 I believe. I remember wanting to get home and play Galaga with my brother. then NES came out and genesis but NES, yes this was a system of systems. My brother and cousins would spend hours playing till the SNES man, if I had to say which is the best system I've ever played it would be the SNES for the games and the times I had playing with all of my family! Those were the times! Today the Champ is the 360. I own the 360, the Wii and the PS3 and each is useful in it's own way but the 360 along with Live gets me back to hangin with my brother and cousins alike playin games like we used to! Wii and PS3 can't say they can do that. Hell, my PS3 thinks it's a Blu-ray player.
