I have the first Crash Bandicoot for PS1. But I've also played Crash Bandicoot racing which is a Suprisingly playable cart racing game. If I find Crash 2&3 I will pick them up. Since the only other Crash Bandicoot game I've played is Crash Bandicoot the wrath of Cortex on PS2.
1 and 2 have the best ratings.
I like the first a lot (i have it on ps1 and downloaded for my psp) BUT the dificulty is pretty tough as you get later in the game. and I HATE the save system. I have Crash warped too, and It's VERY similar to the first, and thats a good thing.

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped for me. Then Crash 2 and the original. All of them are great in my book but the original's difficulty and lack of variety compared to the sequels didn't age well. Completing every level in Crash Bandicoot without dying as well as collecting each and every box was like trying to break a brick wall with my head... but I still 100% all three games. :D
Crash 3 Warped and CTR.
I Found that most ps1 platformers improved with each sequel instead of slipping like most people say.
Spyro 1 for instance was an "ok" 3-d platformer, but Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon greatly improved the level design, mini-games, and boss fights to create an overall better experience.
Platformers however...do regress when jumping to a next gen console and I think we all agree on that.
Sadly that's the case. I wish we still had more memorable platformers like Spyro and Crash to play on our current gen consoles. Though, playing them today never gets old.Crash 3 Warped and CTR.

2 and Warped, they are so much better than the first IMO, the first one is a long exercise in frustration.

Playing Spyro 1 through at the moment and loving it. I think the level design is pretty solid, especially in the later levels, but I agree with you that the boss battles are rather lame, (I have just beaten Jacques in the 'Dream Weavers' world). One thing is certain, the graphics of Spyro the Dragon have aged so much better than Super Mario 64, which features some really nasty looking textures (Though it redeems itself in countless other ways :P). I really wish I could play SM64 with a DualShock Controller though! :P
Crash team racing is next on my PS1 'to get' list, closely followed by Spyro - Gateway to Glimmer then Year of the Dragon ;) I will definitely pick up a Crash platformer if I come across one though.
Crash Bandicoot Warped it had such a cool theme and introduced new moves to the series. It also had the most replayability with the time trials.

No doubt the level design in the first one is solid...and some of them are really interesting and fun. Just throwing my 2 cents that I prefer the next two over the first one. Crash Team Racing is a dandy I tell you that. Some of the best Kart Racing levels ever conceived (For battle and races) are in that game. If you have ever enjoyed Mario Kart then you will definitely enjoy CTR.
For me it's probably Crash 2. I actually got all the gems in that one, which took ages and so much level memorizing xD.
Crash 1 just didn't feel rewarding to play. Crash 3 just didn't have the right feel to it; I enjoyed it but didn't get completely addicted like I did with 2. Haven't played Bash or CTR.

I completely forgot about Bash!
Dang it that was one of the few playstation games that I went...over 100%...Which I didn't quite understand because I had like 2 gems to go, but oh well lol. I felt it was better than mario party was.
