You're right. MGS3 has one of the best endings of all time (maybe the best).
I loved the Zero ending for Mega Man X5 - the X series should have ended there.
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops has also a good ending, which you enjoy the most if you are familiar with the series.
The ending of Mega Man Zero 4 is great; as long as it stays that way...
I liked the ending to Splinter cell only the escape bit could of been cooler. I just really like the end part where movie where
The president is on the tv and is saying how America beat the bad guys (although obviously not quite like that) and Sam is sitting on the couch laughing and his daughter wonders why
Thats not my favorite but it's the only one I can think of right now
Fallout - unexpected.
After saving the world and the Vault, the leader of the Vault kicks you out cause he feels you've been too corrupted by the outside world
Mafia - another excellent and unexpected ending.
You character gets shot, with a shotgun blast straight to the chest.....the cool catch, its years later after the actual end of the game and you're an old man, showing that no matter how long it takes the Mafia always catches up to you
Silent Hill 2 - The "Leave" Ending - emotional and great ending.
After defeating this demon you are granted one last heartfelt goodbye with the spirit of your dead wife who you were searching for, she forgives you and tells you to move on with life. As she reads an heartfelt emotional letter to you, you fullfill her last wish which was to adopt a little girl who is a character in the game.
Resident Evil 2 - great because one the first playthough you got a proper ending, but it wasn't until you beat the second scenerio that you get the full ending which is even better.
First scenerio - You escape on an underground train as this secret lab is exploding.....Second scenerio - turns out a really nasty monster snuck on board the back half of the train, you defeat it by setting the back half of the train on self destruct and seperating the sections making your escape to the front part.....and the monster dies in a fiery explosion, finally exit on the other side of the tunnel, as you walk into the sunset with your other companions you vow revenge on umbrella.
Grim Fandango
After spending like forever in limbo.....turns out that you were one of the good souls all along, and by helping meche get her lost ticket you discover one of the many stolen ones was for you. Your character finally gets his ticket into the better afterlife with the girl he helped
Planescape Torment
After going on a quest to find out who you really are, you discover that your character's actions and history mean being sent to hell to fight in the blood war for all eternity....sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Max Payne 2 - both the regular ending and extended bonus ending.
Regular ending - Max kisses Mona's lips as her body lies on the floor as the cops come in to investigate the scene, Max narrating then says "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was alright."......Bonus ending - Mona regains consciousness after Max kisses her, shes too tough to be killed by just one shot.....with the bonus ending you realize why he says it was alright.
Diablo - First time you saw it, it was actually quite a surprise.
You insert the hellstone into your forhead hoping that you can contain the evil within and wander the lands alone.
Ico - I'm referring to the real ending on the beach.
You defeat the evil queen, escape the castle, and find Yorda on the beach and both live happily ever after...blablabla.
Full Throttle - For some reason, I just really liked this ending, it was a fitting closure.
Ben says goodbye to the girl, and rides off on the highway into the sunset....with a trail of rabbits behind him.
Bomberman 64: The Second Attack is the only game that I actually have feelings for. The moment you start this game up and here the Stage Select music you can tell this won't be your happy-go-lucky Bomberman game. Everything about this game is darker than the Bomberman I'm use to, the levels, music, everything you experience in this game tells you ahead of time not to expect a happily ever after ending.
The ending scene itself was unexpected and rough, but the credits and music didn't help either. This is the one ending I come back to over and over.
