In my opinion it's close call between Half Life 1 (PC) and Goldeneye (N64), but I think I like Goldeneye better...
I also really liked Call of Duty 2 (PC), that game was epic the first time I played it.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
obviously it is doom that game kicked ass.
of this gen I wouldsay
3. Killzone 2
2. Call of duty 4
1. Halo 3
I didn't play too many games in the good 'ol days, so my voted are more recent:
TimeSplitters (1,2,3,) and Battlefield 2.

I remember playing GoldenEye at my cousin's place... God, those are fond memories.
But games have evolved, and our modern shooters are much better. My list is:
3. Unreal Tournament '99
2. Modern Warfare 2
1. Killzone 2
I usually hate run and gun games like Unreal Tournament, especially with all the laser beams and aliens. I don't like pulpy sci-fi. But there is something about that game... SOMETHING... That made me play it to this very day. I prefer explosive but tactical, realistic shooters like Killzone 2.

What?
I'll say Doom I & II because it's the FPS that really made FPS' popular, and it actually had atmosphere.
Doom III was crap.

Um, yeah so? It's a great multiplayer game, regardless of what haters say. I don't like Activision but the game is fun online. My vote goes to Perfect Dark on the N64. Epic soundtrack, GREAT STORY, and the large variety of guns is still unmatched. Deus Ex is also great if you can count it as an FPS, although it's really more of an FPS/RPG hybrid.UT_WrestlerSure you have played Perfect Dark?
3. Battlefield 2 - What can I say... this game just plain rocked. Huge multiplayer environment with tons of chaos.
2. Half Life 2 - A lot of people say HL1 which did have a significant impact on the fps genre, but Half Life 2 made Steam into what it is today.
1. Doom - Before they called them FPSs, they called them Doom clones... 'nuff said.
Crysis is the most beautiful games don't deny thatmoatazzozo
This ain't a beauty contest. Just sayin'.

that I played? HaloI've never understood the love for HL2. While I think it's a decent game, I really don't see anything that warrants all the praise it receives. It feels souless and so empty most of the time, the vehicle sections are terrible, the gunfights are drab that have no feeling of impact coupled with poor enemy A.I., and the lack of music sucks any atmosphere remaining. I love the weapons and characters though as well as the physics based puzzles, and the story is somewhat decent, but as far as gameplay goes I just don't see it as anything extremely noteworthy.
On topic, I'd have to choose Doom I and II as the best. They kick started an entire genre, have aged extremely well and are just as replayable as the day they were released.

MW2 is one of the most broken and unplayable games I've ever had the displeasure of owning. It's so buggy, and unbalanced with people knife teleporting in every single corner. I can't think of a more overhyped and crappy game as MW2.

Why don' you go laugh at 94 metacritic score? See, GS, why isn't this guy moderated? Completely disruptive, taunting, pointless posting. But if I reply telling him to go to an ugly place, I'm moderated. Why is that? Please Log In to post.
