Serious answer would be, no one knows because we'll likely get gaming drops for the two console launches and some at gaming events. Nintendo could have something hidden we simply don't know about.
Based on the games we know and if I had to guess-
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be overlooked and forgotten just like Splatoon 2. while fans of AC like myself and @speeny will likely mention it all year long in praise.
Resident Evil 3 could be better than Resi2 and diehard Re2 fans will call it 'rushed-trash'. I've already seen people coming down hard on the game despite no reason to think as such, looks amazing.
Cyberpunk 2077 is the zeitgeist game for US gaming media such as Gamespot and IGN. Whether it will live up to the unrealistic expectations or not is anyone's guess. Based on The Witcher 3 will at least be a competent full-packaged game I assume. Won't be a pillar of game design but I expect a decent all-rounder.
D00M: Eternal is really coming across as an 'uh oh' for me. Seems to want to be a bit of everything popular in gaming right now, story focused, Mortal Kombat mechanics and sound effects, Nintendo platforming. Giving me Resident Evil 6 vibes. I've read the gameplay is pretty good but also looks very. . . blatant in its odd design choices. And I'm not convinced it's an improvement over D00M (IV)
Final Fantasy VII will unlikely be viewed with overwhelming praise solely because it's part 1. And will heavily judged on that aspect. Could be Square Enix best game in decades and will still be hammered for being overly ambitious.
The Last of Us: Part II and Halo: Infinite I'm honestly not convinced will make it 2020. The lack of communication tells me Sony and Microsoft will bring something else out to soften the blow and push these both back to 2021.
Elden Ring could likely grab majority rewards. From Software are a very proven and extremely talented developer, name the last disappointing From Software game and I guarantee it still did better than majority of other developer libraries.
Baldur's Gate III developed by the amazing Larian Studios of Divinity fame. I love this team but no way in hell is that game coming out this year, at best will have a chapter 1 demo much like D:OS II got. Have no love for Baldur's Gate personally but I really, really enjoyed D:OSII so I will likely dive in when this game is developed.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be overlooked and forgotten just like Splatoon 2. while fans of AC like myself and @speeny will likely mention it all year long in praise.
Couldn't agree more. The initial hype and release is when most people will be enjoying it. But, overtime you'll see a lot of casual players just kind of forgetting about it...I've been guilty of this too with NL unfortunately. :P
@speeny: Will likely make it my frequent game to play on the train. Just chipping away at it as intended all year long.
It's what I expected from Pokémon, but I dropped that like a bad habit quite suddenly. I just hope Animal Corssing doesn't come with similar baggage.
The Last of Us: Part II and Halo: Infinite I'm honestly not convinced will make it 2020. The lack of communication tells me Sony and Microsoft will bring something else out to soften the blow and push these both back to 2021.
Think they said Halo is guaranteed launch in 2020 and probably the only one. You'd still be able to play it on Xbox One also
The year is less than a month old. There aren't many games we can actually tell whether or not they're good. I do enjoy Temtem so far though
Think they said Halo is guaranteed launch in 2020 and probably the only one. You'd still be able to play it on Xbox One also
They also promised the release of Crackdown 3 countless times so word of mouth isn't always reliable when Microsoft have a history of delays.
Being on Xbox One doesn't surprise me, Microsoft want people to play on anything remotely modern, from my understanding they're trying to get majority of games on a mobile app as well though a streaming service; much like Stadia I'm not sure if it'll be anything other than burning money but Microsoft will do what Microsoft does.
