NES/SMS

Surprise surprise, SNES is winning. *facepalm* Nostalgiaaaa. Anyways, N64'd probably be my favorite era, I started out on a TurbografX 16, and I remember when my cousin got an N64 and I was 3, we played Super Mario 64 and it just wowed little me, and I begged for one the following Christmas. I think my N64's the only legacy console I'll play games on regularly, the games on it just really shine to me, and they mostlyhave this odd aesthetic to them(I heard the texture capacity was fairly weak on the N64 so they just used solid colors mostly, and that could be it) that really makes me feel good, and I don't know if it's nostalgia or what, but if I had to pick any two consoles it'd be the N64 and the PSX. Plus Final Fantasies 7 and 9 have got to be my top two JRPGs, and nothing else even touches them bar maybe the original. =P
N64/PS1
There is a ton of fun games for these consoles, it was between that or the Wii/Xbox360 since they are adding classic games to their arcades available for purchase and the only down side of that would that there are fewer games with only a couple of them being any good.
Probably PS2/GC/XBox era. I loved all three of those consoles, which isn't something I can say for every generation. It probably had the most depth of good games too. You could pull out any genre among those consoles and get ten really top notch games.
My second would be N64/PS1. I thought PS1 was pretty lacking in most cases, but N64 is probably my favorite console ever. And then SNES/Genesis would be third.
Psx and N64 for sure. I started gaming with SNES but nothing can hold a candle to the fun I've had with the former--Mario Party multiplayer, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Various Jrpgs, ect ect.
Gamers old enough to have played all generations at their prime probably will go for the Snes/Genesis era !
I've been playing games for quite a while now, and for me the best generation of video games was the 5th generation (Sat/PS/N64).
I have had manymore enjoyable memories from the 5th gen, especially the PS1, than any others. I think what really brought this particular generationto its culmination for me has to be the RPGs. It seemed like for a span of4-5years, I never ran out of spectacular RPGs to play on the Playstation.
Do not get me wrong I love my NES, SNES and Genesis, and I still play quite a few of my SNES games, but I felt that the 5th generation was simply superior!
As for the current generation (7th), I really feel that it is lacking in the quality games that I saw within previous generations. I am not sure why I think that, it may be simply because I really enjoy RPGs and there is a significant lack of RPGs this gen. It might also be that many of the games are simply recycles or sequels, I would love playing a completely new series and getting into the story and characters.
Definitely have to agree. If you have the ability to import Saturn games, there's no better system.Sega Saturn is the best console ever.

For my gaming taste there's also no better system.
The SS truly marked the end of a gaming era, and that's what makes the system so unique.
For me, the Dreamcast was a real disappointment in comparison to the SS. But of course people love the DC because they pirate all of its games from the internet, thus it has the worse fan-base possible.

Because people can pirate games on it, it has a bad fan base? A bit of lack of logic there.

A fan-base comprised of mostly peope who never supported the system is a terrible fan base if you ask me.Most people are too naive when it comes to piracy. They just assume that if X system wasn't so easy to pirate then the pirates would be forced to buy original software, when it's actually the other way around. Most people only bought the system because they don't have to buy software, otherwise they wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
Of course I can't go into detail here, but the Nintendo current gen systems for example are also extremely easy to pirate, yet they still sell millions of software. In the case of the Dreamcast, most people probably were purchasing software from the other current generation systems like the PS2 while sticking only with piracy for the DC. Yes, they can praise the DC all they want, but that's a terrible fanbase no company would like to have, I assure you.
I began gaming in the SMS/NES era, and every gaming generation right from the start of my gaming addiction holds a special place in my heart. However, the one the sticks out for me is the PSone/N64 era. This is when console gaming stepped in to 3D worlds, produced games with great depth & content, and took a more serious approach to gaming. As much as I love the older generations of gaming, the PSone was (in my opinion) where gaming took that giant leap in to greatness, which it continues to this day.
The N64/PS1/Dreamcast era. It's where I began.N64_FanTwo different eras. Saturn was SEGA's console that competed with N64 and PS1. Dreamcast was supposed to compete with PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox. It just happened to come out earlier (sort of like Xbox 360 did this generation) and die sooner due to a wide variety of reasons (little or no EA Games/Tecmo/Square/Take-Two/Natsume/etc support, few RPGs, general public distrust of SEGA after other short lived pieces of hardware, rampant piracy, PS2 hype, lack of DVD playback, poor representation of SEGA franchises, one analog stick, etc.)

It was supposed to, however in reality it was more of the N64/PS1 era since by the time Xbox/GC were out, the DC was dead in the water.
Woah now! it's not the "SNES" that's winning I voted for that generation specifically for the Genesis. Centurion Defender of Rome, Starflight (probably best game ever), Dune (first real RTS game), Buck Rogers (best 16 bit RPG) Two sonic games, Mortal Kombat, Desert Strike, Populus, Jurassic Park, ToeJam and Earl, Phantasy Star, GoldenAxe, Cyberball, Contra Hard Corps, Thunder Froce, and the list goes on. Now those were games!
well i belive wii on its own makes a tie with the n64 ps1 era
---- - cause we got to see more n64 classics brought back
such as
goldeneye007
donkey kong country returns
super mario side scroller
2 3d mario games that were very revolutionary
zelda titles
various metroid games in 3d and in a mixture-metroid other m
basically the wii is what the n64 could have been
Ooooh, CLOSE RACE! But I'm giving the edge to the Ps One and n64 era. After all, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of tim was the first game to ever be awarded the perfect (now called 'prime') 10. And the original Playstation was just destroying the competition with games like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7. The commercials were great too; like Crash Bandicoots. I miss those days... :(
I have the best memories about the early 90s, thus SNES and Genesis era. But the PS1 and N64 era was also very creative.
The 16 bit era hands down. Don't get me wrong, some games in this era were bad but most games on the systems in this generation still hold up the best out of any. Mario World, Sonic, Vectorman, Mario Kart were awesome. Squaresoft was at it's peak during this time. The SNES and Genesis games have been rereleased several times. GBA was a victim of ported games from SNES. They have made Sonic's genesis collection on current generation systems. The virtual console for Wii I think has more games in the SNES category than the others. On Xbox they have a lot of 16 bit arcade games like contra, double dragon, samurai showdown 2, earthworm jim Ninja Turtles 2, and Turtles in time albeit a remake. Scott pilgrim is basically a 16 bit beat em up. They are coming out with a spiritual sequel to contra hardcorps. Even on DS, most games choose to have 16 bit graphics even though games could be done in 64 bit. Kirby Squeak and squad, Contra 4, Mega Man ZX, Castlevania, and so forth.
You never see 8 bit other than in the new mega man games. 64 bit does not exist except for in Square's remakes and in mario games. Nothing is done in PS1 style except for maybe castle crashers.
The style of the 16 bit era will probably live on for many generations after this one.
