Best generation of consoles

What do you think was the best generation of video game consoles?

I think the xbox-ps2-gamecube generation was the best. It had a hugely diverse range of amazing games on every console. During that generation you really couldn't go wrong with any one console.

Last gen was my favorite. I also had all 3 consoles.

This gen I had a 360 got bored, sold it for a Wii still bored. I'm a PC gamer now.

Well I own games on my PC I used to own with my 360 such as Oblivion, Mass Effect, GTA 4 ect so it never got used.

If you mean the Wii is a worse console because most of it's games are generally rated E or are shovelware I could agree. But Zelda, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros Brawl is fun from time to time. I play the console as casually as the games tailored for it.

I get my generic FPS #987435 found on a 'good' consoles from Battlefield, CounterStrike, Call of Duty 4, Team Fortess 2, Left 4 Dead, ect on my PC.

this gens full of b.s from all fps to no split screen in them , and dlc tacked on

even with all the great games this gen , , its still ways off of last gen ,,

last gen everything i ncluding online was included-online was by credit card-the only draw bak but hey had they had it like they do now last gen , it would only make this gen look even worst lol ,

5. for resident evil 5 multiplayer just goes to show how much of a ripoff this gen can be , lets not forget the 600 us dollars or 60 us dollar games which use to be 50 dollars, and the out rages accessory prices- a gc /ps2 xbox controller price-29,99 this gen -wii 60 all together ps3-54,99 360-70 w./ charger ,

so were paying double this gen on accessories and 10 more per game , its ridiculous,

with the money were paying everything should be included , no dlc no nothing ,unless its levels that werent ment to be in for release- eg temple and facility perfect dark zero - i bet you this was held back ,, those map layouts are dated so you can bet they were held back ,

same for re5 multiplayer dead rising costumes etc

so ya last gen and beyond are the best

Well, wherever you want to fit the Dreamcast in is my favorite generation. Some people say it's more the N64/PS1 era though the Saturn came out with those, but since it came out so early they don't consider it part of the PS2/GCN/Xbox generation.

So since it's in a generation of it's own I'd say generation 5.5. The Dreamcast era! :o

The Playstation/Nintendo 64/Dreamcast era for me. There was far more originality and diverse games around because 3D gaming was so new. Things started becoming repetitive rather than perfected during the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era and now things are just stale.Raiko101

I think that the N64/PS1 gen was the b est, for one it had the GBC which was one of the best portables of all time, plus N64 and PS1 were both epic consoles.

32 bit was my favorite. PS1 was my console of choice.

Hard to argue against the 16-bit era, but my favorite is definitely the Saturn/PS1/N64 era. It was the generation that took us to 3D and offered the most variety in all genres. the Saturn showcased most of Sega's masterpieces, the PS1 had a monstrous selection of games, and the N64 is still the best living room multiplayer console of all time.

the 16 bit era was amazing... but im leaning more and more to the 32bit era these days.

Last gen, it didn't have any bad consoles.

My personal favorite is the NES/Master System gen cuz it's the one I grew up on and it had great games. Objectively speaking though, I'd have to go with the DC/GCN/Xbox/PS2 era.

Last gen. The consoles didn't cost an arm and a leg and the development costs for games was much lower, so there were a huge quantity of them. I think that's the big problem with this generation of consoles - the games cost so much to make that we're never going to see the huge numbers of them like last gen. They'll have 400 people working on a game and 375 of them are working on the graphics, and the gameplay hasn't improved one iota.

agreed- the Saturn was released around the same time as the N64 and PlayStation, (I should know- I got one for Christmas) thus, making it part of that era...

the Dreamcast was only released about a 13 months before the PS2- making it part of the GCN, Xbox, PS2 era...

in the words of Santa Clause from Miracle on 34th street... I always thought it was compeltely understood!

The current generation...

360...amazing system. I think it's the best bet for pure gaming this generation. I am jealous of all of the community the 360 owners I know seem to feel part of.

PS3...amazing system. I think it's the second best bet for a gaming system, and the first for...well, I'm too biased since I own the system. The Blu-Ray is good, but not necessary. The backwards compatibility is great since the PS2 had some great games with longevity. Sony has been pushing the envelope since the days of Akio Morita.

Wii...to put it bluntly, a miss on the gaming side.

DS...I think it delivers the most value for a handheld...

Ipod Touch...this is still new to me but I have seen some fun looking games on it (I do not own one nor have I played one).

PSP...sexy and nice. Optical technology seems to have hit the limit...I mean, loading times alone made me sell mine. Too many bits...there is a bottleneck somewhere and I think it's in using optical technology. Solid state games would be expensive but...someday.

Tie between the 64/PS1 era and the NES era in my opinion.

Another one for the N64/PS1 generation here. I'm just too young to have really been into gaming much before that, but I did have a Magadrive (which I loved) prior to my N64 and that jump into true 3D just blew my mind.

PS2 Generation!! I Still Play My PS2, And It Was Probably The Happiest Day Of My Life When I Got It 2 Years Ago (I Still Remember Exactly When).

This is a question of eternal arguement and debate, as everyone sees each generation differently. It really is also a matter of what year you started playing games. That said, still fun to talk about :P

For me, the 16 bit era has yet to be topped. Last gen was definitely one to remember, but the days of SNES and Genesis still hold the crown for me.

PSone era IMO, and i think its because of silent hill :)

The 16-bit generation was great. Given online play was not an essential factor at that time the games were focused on teh gameplay (for the most part) and not on all the glam and fancy stuff they are today. Games had alot more depth and required alot more focus to be good at them. Genesis was a great system, those were the days!
