I really enjoyed San Andreas and Vice City. I did not enjoy Grand Theft Auto 1 for PS1 or London.

GTA4 undoubtedly.
It's so realistic that I was spellbound after playing for first few hours. The graphics, animation, carjacking, accidents, bloods and gores - everything is so realistic that I can't think of any other GTA game in front of this.
they are all superb games but if i had to choose vice city edges it slightly for me i loved the setting and story and the soundtrack was superb. it was also tons of fun to play. gta iv comes a close second with gta 3 third and san andreas fourth. despite an amazing start, for me, sa went downhill once you left the hood and is the only gta i didnt finish.
Four is my favorite,it the best in my opinion.
III was gritty, the story was simple and the amount of ways available to solve each mission were insane, I still think this chapter has the most freedom within the structured missions.
Then SA. It looked the best last gen,and had the most option, plus my favorite character in any GTA so far with carl, and they have you in the desert chasing down jetpacks and other extremly stupid stuff, which dumbed down the total experience for me.
Vice city last. While the game had alot of greatness, and the best soundtrack,i have just never cared for teh setting. I used to hate miami vice also.
I only talk about the 3d entrys here. I like 1 and 2,but comparing them to the later installments is like apples and oranges.
