As the title says,I am looking for the best modernized strategic war game for either pc or ps3..I am a ww2 buff and todays miliotary but cant find games to match any help??
Even though it is a few years old now, I really enjoy RUSE as a good mix of combat and strategy. Best part is it's like $20 now. Plenty of people playing it online.
If you haven't yet, try out the "Theatre of War" titles, the third at least is Korea if you are sick and tired of WW2, also "Close Combat : The Longest Day" or "Modern Tactics" for different flavors/time periods and last and sadly somewhat least, "Combat Mission: Shock Force". All the deep and complex games have their quirks, are difficult to handle, have a steep learning curve and plenty of frustration but if something goes right, it can be magnificent and I just don't care too much for the overly simplified Rock-Paper-Scissors titles where most of the development time was spent on explosion FX. I keep going back to "Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank", I even bought it but you can have plenty of fun with the free version.
When you're interested in military, be it history, technical or strategical, you probably want to see real life stuff behaving as it should, not just as graphic sets, so I'd stay clear of Civ and Empire Earth. Company of Heroes is great but rather a frantic small scale action RTS but really nice attention to detail. I just don't like it because it has the usual RTS letdowns (they are cons for me at least) like, you need to know the best build orders and be able to effectively work at three points on the map simultaneously to get anywhere against anything tougher than the easiest AI, as in Multiplayer. The ones still playing are veterans and will make toast of anyone new to this. It's a lot of fun if you can find a friend or two who is near your level.
I always like to play strategy war games and some of my most favorite strategy games are CDS Global storm, Call of duty Modern warfare two, RUSE, Legacy online and Empire earth.
