Besides of sports games like NBA 2K and FIFA which I play every year, when I'm buying a game I look at how good and full of content the single-player campaign is, because I want to get my money worth.

In the past few years, I played Witcher 3, which in my opinion is 1 of the best, if not the best game of all time, because it's so good at so many different aspects (the story, the music, the world, the characters, the side-quests, the DLCs, the abundance of content, the variety of enemies, the attention to details, Gwent and so on) Fallout 4 and Metal Gear Solid V, which are great also, but their stories are not that good and the missions get repetitive after a while and Rise of the Tomb Raider, which was also very fun, but too short, in which case, I don't feel like I got my money worth.

This year I feel like there's no single-player campaign that stands out or gets anywhere near a game like Witcher (besides Uncharted 4, but I play on Xbox), so I was wondering, which games would you recommend me that have a great and long story (at least 25-30 hours) and fun gameplay?

If you haven't played any of the Bioshock games, check those out. Very good games.

I played Bioshock Infinite, but like Rise of the Tomb Raider, it has a short campaign. It was great though.

keep an eye on dishonored 2 reviews, so far it's sounding like it's a worthy sequel and fits your criteria. have you played the witcher 3 blood and wine dlc?

Well Final Fantasy XV is only 18 days away now and that one should be quite large with a lot to do.

As I said, Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time so of course I played the DLCs.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided is a good game from what I've heard, but it has a short campaign, and most reviewers give it a 7 so I'm not sure it's worth the money.
But from the games that are coming out in the following months, is there anything special in particular?

Dishonored 2 is, so far after about 4 hours, MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

I also enjoyed Deus Ex Mankind Divided despite the story kind of fizzling towards the end. Replayed it like three times despite that.

I can easily see myself playing Dishonored 2 about four times. Right now I am doing a "Pissed Off Emily, Kill the Usurpers!" run, I think my next one will be a "Powerless (as in, no Outsider powers) Kill-Free Pacifist Emily Run" then a "Corvo the Rat" run, then a "Corvo the Pacifist" run

Yeah Witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time. Right behind it are Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, MGSV and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. I think they are all worth checking out. Imo u should go for Deus Ex. Immersive and expansive campaign, with lots of exploration, lore and freedom of choice. Gameplay is absolutely top notch especially for a ghost player.

I have a Xbox so I can't play Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4 or Bloodborne. I already played FO4, MGSV, Rise of the Tomb Raider and GTA V. Dark Souls and Alien Isolation are not really my type of games.
I'll keep an eye on reviews for Dishonored 2 and Watch Dogs 2, maybe one of them will actually be great, I may buy Deus Ex Mankind also but only when the price drops a bit more.

Don't listen to the people saying Deus Ex MD. It's essentially the previous game with a slight face list.

From what I've played, TW3 looks to be very god thus far. Imo, much better than the previous Witcher games.

Also, as repetitive as Fallout 4 gets in the last few years, the opening 10 hours or so are class and well worth the money.

Other than that, not much else on offer.

For content rich single player experiences, I have to give props to the following

-Pikmin 3

-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

-Super Mario 3D World

-New Super Mario Bros. U

-Bayonetta 2

-Bloodborne

-Batman Arkham Knight

Lots of time spent on each of these.

Far Cry 4 is pretty good and has 50 hrs gameplay if you go for 100% completion.

By the way don't you think this year has been extremely disappointing as far as games are concerned? Besides Uncharted 4, which is only on PS4, we've had no games actually deserving of a 9 or 10, after the past few years we've had classics like Witcher 3 and GTA V.

I'm still early in the campaign but I'm loving Tyranny right now. If you're into Baldur's Gate style RPGs from a team that knows the genre like few others, it's a good choice. They say that the campaign is only 25-30 hours but with much replay-ability potential cause things change a lot depending on your choices.

What do you guys think of Mafia 3 and Watch Dogs 2? Which campaign would you say it's better in terms of the world, the story and the gameplay? I think at the moment they might be the only ones matching my criteria.

Mafia 3 is better imo.

Watch Dogs 2 is ok but it´s like the first , riddled with bugs and badly developed.

Why are games so incredibly bad this year compared to last year? Just look at the GOTY nominees: Doom, Inside, Uncharted 4, Titanfall 2, Overwatch. Only Uncharted comes closer to Witcher 3, Fallout 4, MGS V or Rise of the Tomb Raider but even Uncharted is too short.

And even next year doesn't look so good if you ask me, besides Red Dead Redemption. It's like those developers don't care enough about the games anymore.

So have you played any of those games or are you just assuming theyre bad. Because Doom is fantastic. And Titanfall/Overwatch have both been very well received by the masses. Havent played them myself, but i wont assume theyre bad because they're multiplayer based games.

Theres also

Forza Horizon 3,

Gears 4,

Last guardian in a few days,

Pokemon Sun/Moon,

FFXV

Dishonored 2

Dead rising 4 soonish

Dark souls 3

Xcom 2

Dragon quest builders

Shadow Warrior 2

Persona 5

Civilization 6

Db Xenoverse 2

World of Final fantasy seems fun.

And tons of others. What rock are you living under.

I haven't played Mafia, but Watch Dogs 2 is better than I expected it to be. The world is fantastic and the story is pretty good, despite being relatively cliché. Gameplay is absolutely awesome; again, better than I expected (I never played the original, so I don't know how different it is).

Unfortunately though, I think your criteria is highly restrictive. If you think that games with less gameplay time than, say, The Witcher 3 are potentially not worth the money...then your list of available games is now really no more than a handful at best. I mean, the vast majority of single-player, story-driven games aren't going to be nearly as long as The Witcher 3, which was just ridiculously long (I almost think it was too long, honestly).

If you can tolerate a shorter campaign with more replayability, then you may find that your options open up a little more.

First of all, I don't have countless money to spend on games, so when I buy one, I want it to be worth it. I don't expect the campaign to be as long as Witcher 3's of course, but I don't want to finish it in 1-2 days either, because that would be a waste of money and games like COD, Battlefield and Titanfall are in that category. Of course I could tolerate a shorter campaign, but my wallet wouldn't.
Second of all, I'm not really a fan of multiplayer shooting games because I think they get repetitive after a while and even if I was, I don't really see the point in buying more than 1 because they're not that different and special to be worth paying 120$ for 2 of them.
Also, games like Pokemon, Xcom or Inside are not my type. I don't know what their genre is, but I prefer regular games.
That's why I'm saying that this year games have been very disappointing, at least for me, because they are either way too short, too bad or only multiplayer which isn't worth buying unless you really enjoy that genre.
Mafia 3 and Watch Dogs 2 seemed to have more potential, but now the reviews for them aren't that good either. And I heard Final Fantasy has a bad story also.
As I said, no game this year besides Uncharted 4 comes even close to Fallout 4, MGSV, Witcher 3 or Rise of the Tomb Raider.
