I was just wondering everyone's opinions on their favorite super nes RPG. I have played final fantasy 3 (aka 6) part of earthbound, and part of super mario RPG. I hear a lot of people also say that crono trigger was one of the best RPG's even though i haven't really played it. I am also thinking about purchasing a super nintendo in the near future and going to pick up these games along with it. Also if you have any other RPG's that you enjoyed more and would like to mention please do thanks.

Yeah, those 4 are the best of the best for SNES. There's another one I want to say, but I can't remember if it was for SNES or not, and I can't even remember the name. I will do some research on RPG's for the SNES and see if I can't find a list and pick it out of there.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is one of the best and most accessible RPG's from the SNES era. It combines the Mario universe along with the Square flair (that they've now lost) for RPG's into one great game. It isn't as complex or "deep" as some of the others but that is why I think its one of the best. It just provides you with a great RPG experience that is quite memorable. Hard to find a copy of it though.

Secret of Mana was fun, although that was more of an action RPG.

There's only one answer to this question. The INDISPUTABLE best RPG of the SNES era is Chrono Trigger.

I think FFVI is the best. But really, you can't go wrong with any of those RPGs. Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, and especially Chrono Trigger are all fantastic. I'd also throw Secret of Mana on that list.

Traditionally, I'm not an RPG player, but damn... I'm getting nostalgic already.

its impossible to decide between FFVI (or III, or w/e else we can call it) and chrono trigger. even after deciding that, put it next to a game like secret of mana, and you have a conundrum. then throw shadowrun into the mix and watch your head explode

The games you mentioned are definitely nice, as are terranigma, illusion of gaia, romancing saga 3, secret of mana /seiken densetsu 3, soul blazer, and tales of phantasia.

dragon quest, breath of fire, and the Ys games are worth a look as well.

earthbound and final fantasy 5 are the most fun ive ever had playing an rpg.

Chrono Trigger is the best. Stuff like new game plus, multiple endings, no random battlesandno battle screens put it ahead of the others.

romancing saga 3.

the Ys games

super_police

Good to see some love for the lesser-known ones. RS3 was a damn hard game though. Personally I thought Ys 3 was better on the Genesis, but that's probably because of the superior music.

Seiken Densetsu 3 deserves a mention here. That game rocked.

Shadowrun was pretty good, too, but I never very far into it.

Don't discount Final Fantasy IV (2). It's a little cliched and dated now, but the musical score is one of the best and it's got a great cast of character that help keep the game timeless. Legend of Lufia II is a fantastic game (the first one is okay, but the sequel is so much better and is actually a prequel so you don't need to play the first to understand it really).

Chrono Trigger is the undisputed king though. Not just the best RPG on the SNES, but arguably one of the best of all time. I'll still put that game up against anything that comes out today.

Yeah, along with Chrono Trigger, I think those are the two must-plays of the SNES era. Not that the FF or the Earthbound games weren't great too.

Hell yeah i can't wait for when this semester ends so i can play them all :D. Supposedly the FC-TWIN console is very compatable and i already have about 20-30 original NES games so im happy i will be able to play them all over again along with these SNES classics.

I know some people don't count it as an RPG but Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen was one of my favorites... Also Shadowrun and Final Fantasy III

Lufia 2 was by far the best in my opinion. Easily beat out anything Square came up with.

All the gmaes mentioned are definitely top notch RPGs for the SNES. I would definitely put an enphasis on Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia, if you can find a copy and read Japanese cause Im pretty sure it never made it to this side of the world and that is a crying shame.
