Best RTS game

I was always interested by the RTS genre as a kid but never got to play any. After seeing Age of Mythology Retold on the PS Store it had me looking into games of this genre to try out. What are your favorite RTS games and why?

Warcraft 3 will always be my favorite. All the races are unique and interesting.

The heroes add another layer to the gameplay. And they are some of the most iconic characters around.

I thought the campaign and story were great.

I don't play a lot of RTS games these days, but it used to be my favorite genre.

Top of the list has to be (some of these are tower defense, some are real-time tactics):

You can take a look at Original War. It is truly, well, original. There is probably no game which would deserve "mix of RTS and RPG" more that this one. Every soldier has name and skill which he develops. You can not train new soldiers. To research technology in the lab, to produce a vehicle, to man a turret - you need a soldier (well, later you can develop AI technologies which make You a bit less dependent on the human resources).
