So I am assuming at least a few people here have a Saturn and I remember some Darkman guy way back when I was here before if he;s still here so i have a question for you old gamers that have or had/played a Sega Saturn. What are the top 5 best shooters on the console in your opinion? Can be Scrolling, On foot, thrid, fps, etc. Then we will add results since I can't make polls yet apparently.

Best shoot-em ups I've played for Saturn:

  • Darius Gaiden
  • Galactic Attack
  • Radiant Silvergun

Best On-Rails Shooters I've played for Saturn:

  • Area 51
  • Panzer Dragoon
  • Panzer Dragoon: Zwei
  • Virtua Cop 1 & 2

Do Mega Man games count here, too? Because Mega Man 8 (I don't understand the flack it gets) & Mega Man X4 are great, but are also available on PS1.

I haven't played the original House of the Dead. I like the other games in the series, though.

I was thinking of keeping it local because isn't silver gun imported or am I thinking of another game? Sorry tired. Megaman 8 objectively has the best gameplay balance, variety, difficulty curves, and a few other things in the series. he voice acting isn't even that bad either. Most people at the time probably rated against mostly for the FMV and maybe some changes to the formula, because remember, change is bad, that's why none of those same people are complaining about FPS saturati- oh wait... While I do not think it's the best in the series, it's better than at least all the ones before it by number, (Except maybe Megaman 3 which also added some changes to the formula people don't like. Then they changed it and didn't go back that way with 4 and so on.) I wouldn't reccomend X4 for the Saturn. Anyway enough of ranting for now.

Basically all the ones Emerald_Warrior mentioned, but I'd add Thunder Force V, Thunder Force AC, Thunder Force Gold Pack 1 & 2, and DoDonPachi.

I had so much fun playing Virtua Cop 1 & 2 as a kid!! I still want to get the gun and that series of games again. It probably won't stand the test of time, but I still want to give it a shot. I liked Area51 also.

If you can get it, check out Policenauts. Rail-shooter game with a very detailed storyline (if you're into storylines a lot it's a great game).

depends by what you mean by shooting games? shmups? FPS? light gun shooters?

since Im not sure, Ill list some of the ones I know, although Im not a big shmup fan so I really am not the guy to ask about those.

Light Gun and On Rails

Virtua Cop 1 and 2

House of the Dead

Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei

Space Harrier (as part of the Sega Ages Collection Vol 1 , which also has Afterburner and Outrun)

Afterburner (mentioned above)

FPS

Exhumed/Powerslave

Hexen

Duke Nukem 3D

Quake

In regards to shmups, surprisingly the only one I own on the Saturn is Cotton Boomerang, its a good game, but shmups are sadly not my genre of choice.

I suppose if one wanted to get liberal regarding their choices in terming what is a shooter, you could also count side scrolling shooting games of those I can think of Metal Slug (1MB RAM cart game) and Sillhouette Mirage
