The Mega Drive library is very vast, it really depends what kind of genres you're into.
Of Course there's always the Mega Drive collection for the PS2. That could save you a lot of money, unless you want to specifically play them in their original console.

Everything but Alisia Dragoon. Oh, and Warsong is incredibly difficult. As in "Fire Emblem cemented rigorously" difficult :P. And what's Super Shinobi II? Can't find it :?.
Why not Alisia Dragon? Besides being expensive of course. Then Again I doubt you could find Vampire Killer or Contra cheap, not to mention Alien Soldier which is the most expensive Mega Drive game of all.Everything but Alisia Dragoon. I guess it could be considered like the Valis series, which are an acquired taste of platformers.
There's also Langrisser II, which is also top-notch, but Japanese only. Though if you can play the first you can play it easily too. Another excellent strategy game by Masaya would be Vixen 357. Then there's also the ever elusive The Hybrid Front.
The Super Shinobis are the Mega Drive Shinobis. The Super Shinobi was localized as The Revenge of Shinobi, and the second as Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master.

Alisia Dragoon wasn't that good. Fairly average, and it felt like a sequel to something. And I'm aware of the Langrisser thing, I just never got through the first (WAAAAYYY too hard :P). And why are you using the Japanese names? That's mean, you made me think there was another Genesis game I didn't beat.
Definatley Phantasy Star 2 and 4, 3 isn't bad, but its pretty much considered the black sheep of the franchise. As many have mentioned the 4 main Sonic games are a definite must . There are also some pretty good Sega Arcade game conversions such as Altered Beast, Golden Axe, etc, which might be good if you enjoyed those in the arcade. Also Battletoads was a pretty good improvement from the NES one. Also if you intend to get any of the Add-ons like the Sega CD, Sonic CD and the Lunar games are a definite must as well.

I don't think Langrisser was *that* hard. or maybe I was just too used to the series. I've actually finished all Langrisser games from I to V, with the exception of Millennium that I never played, but that it isn't part of the cannon series.I use the Japanese names because they're the original names. Some localized names just don't make any sense. Like Castlevania IV for example, there's no damn Castlevania IV, just like there isn't a Shinobi III.

Langrisser was hard. The only thing that kept it from being hellish was that Game Overs only sent you back to the beginning of that map, giving you another chance.
No Castlevania IV, eh? A lesson in counting:
Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Super Castlevania IV
That was only the consoles. And there was no Shinobi III, only Revenge of Shinobi, so you beat me there :P.

Well, here's a lesson on remakes, Castlevania on the SNES was a remake of the original. And it was called like the original in Japan, Akumajou Dracula.Konami of America actually made up all the storyline in the manual that tie it as a sequel.
There's no sequel and there's no Castlevnia IV.
Someone else askedthis question about 2 weeksago ill post what i said then.
There are so many games I could list, I will try to give you a verity of different type of games.
Streets of Rage 2 (best beat em up of all time)
Toejam and Earl ( probably the best co-op game on Genesis, random generated levels always keeps this game fun)
Road Rash 1 and 2 (Not a fan of racing games, but i loved this, fights on bikes)
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 (excellent platformers with great music, enemies, backgrounds and levels)
Sonic Series (get them all if you can)
Wonderboy in Moster world (a must, RPG/platformer)
Desert Strike (Destroy things with an apache, you can also look out for jungle and urban strike)
James Pond 2 (excellent platformer, one of my personal favorite games on Gen)
Micro Machines (mini racing, good fun, can also play with 4 players)
The Haunting (you play as a ghost trying to scare away a family from there homes, use the environment to create ghastly images to scare each family member away, there's 400 interactive objects)
Shinobi series (kick ass with a ninja)
Splatterhouse 2 (the most gory genesis game I can think of, but a damn good game to)
Ecco 1 and 2 (fight creatures of the deep, great but as hard as hell)
Street fighter 2 (probably the best fighter on Genesis, you can also look out for Mortal Kombat 2)
Zombies ate my neighbor (another excellent co-op game, tons of levels spoofing off horror films)
Comix Zone (very unique)
Moonwalker (ummmm??, how this get in here?)

Really? It felt nothing like the original. As I recall, a lot of the levels were different....except the final, that felt a lot like the original.
