Growing up i always had a NES systems, but whenever i got the chance to play a genesis i inserted sonic 2, that has always been my favorate sonic game, and probably sequal.

i'm curious to know what is everybodies favorate sonic game [yet i only posted this here because sonic was an original retro game], keeping in mind that i will not judge you if it's not one of the original titles i am just wondering about what is the best/ most popular sonic title.

Sonic 2 was by far the best.

One of the best platformers ever made.

It's a toss-up between Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Both are very similar, and both are a blast to play. They have the best graphics out of the original 2D Genesis Sonic games, although the improvements were marginal. What made it the best for me was the Blue Sphere bonus stages, the cool powers of the special energy shields, and the little additions to the platforming like the swing cables and the pump thingies that brought you to various areas of the level by kind of teter-tottering. And playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 was pretty freaking sweet, opening up areas that were previously impossible to reach.

Best Clas-sic Sequel= Sonic and Knuckles. Great game on its own plus your able to connect Sonic 2 and 3. Huge Reply value.

Best 3D Sequel= Sonic Adventure....or (in terms of a sequel from"Adventure" on)...

Sonic Secret Rings. Many people say it sucked but it just took sometime before it really took off. On-rails, No cheap deaths, Fast Gameplay and you only play as Sonic.

Sonic CD is my favourite.

Panzer_Zwei
same, sonic CD is also my favourite sonic game, the music (in the PAL/JP version) was great and it really felt like the mega drive sonic games, but with the added benefits from the CD, bigger levels, and better music. I think sega has just realised that this is a good thing now, with sonic 4

Of the ones I've played Sonic 2 is my favorite. I've been wanting to try Sonic CD but until I get a Sega CD, or a sonic collection with it, that isn't happening :(

Sonic Rush: Adventure.

The game that got me back into the series, and made me realize just how fun speed and tricky level design can be when done right!

Yes! The JP music is something else, Quartz Quadrant was one of the best soundtracks.

I used to prefer Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and even Sonic CD to the original Sonic when I had only played the 50hz PAL version, but having played the 60hz version as it was intended to be played, I would consider it to be more on equal footing with the others.

In terms of my favourite, Sonic 3 & Knuckles has the edge for me as Sonic 2 tends to be too easy and Sonic CD has too much backtracking.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 combined with Sonic & Knuckles is my favorite but the epicness is equal to number 2. Both games allowing you to be super sonic whenever you want(though you didn't need him it was nice to be unstoppable save for bottomless pits and getting squished). For number 2 all levels were attractive to me as well as the music but the final two levels segment was a Legendary video game moment. When I was little, the second act in the second zone always got to me but that kept me going until I figured how to get across as well as "sneak in" over the top of the level(not a glitch, the secret path). In Sonic the Hedgehog3 & Knuckles hmm, where do I start? The music from every level was nicely burned and encoded into my DNA. From number 3, Ice cap zones music "cap"-tivated me from the first note. It did sound alittle like a michael jackson bass segment. The final segment of that game, though not as high up in altitude, was pretty good. Knuckles got what he deserved at the time and the final music for the boss and even the credits had me jumping. The bouncing barrels in Carnival night zone act 2 had me down for a while but learning the momentum before time ran out each and every time(with or without the water/bubble shield) as well as finally getting to the Ice Cap zone made it worth the effort. Not that I wanted to skip levels but I never could get the level select cheat to work. I wish I could have used debug mode in that or maybe haveplayed through "night" mode. In Sonic & Knuckles the different boss battles and level differences with the slightly different tones between acts made it playable again and again. It wasn't all about hitting the boss repeatedly, you had to find patterns, coax a guardian to follow you to his death, and hit a boss with his own weapon. The game slowly builds you up without words or you even knowing it to a grand finale riddled with suspense, betrayal, and friendship that spans the sky's themselves. That is them by theirselves. put them together and you have the makings of epicness. I hereby decree that under epic and legendary in the dictionary, thesaurus, and the great wikipedia itself that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles be the first entry. You start all-powerful and surprisingly or not have it stripped from you. "Go on, take those emeralds without me lifting so much as a finger. I don't need them to save the day". You blast through levels while still taking time to explore and be entranced by smoothness and appropriate sound. An affinity for knuckles grows as does a hatred within you for that spiky-handed, grape-eating punk. The time trials were too short, I believe, and while not being as good as 2 they were filled with their own tricks andcatchy track tunes. The transition between the two games is done nicely as you continue the story and begin to find out how the Floating Island works. After beating the game you realize it is not over even if you have all the chaos emeralds in Sonic & Knuckles. Having to get all 14 emeralds (7 chaos, and 7 super) to get the real ending wasn't that hard and it was great to play as Super Sonic, Hyper Sonic, Super Knuckles, Hyper Knuckles, and even Super Tails(the little birds did make the last fight interesting.). Everything mentioned is equal to and deserving of one of the best ending sequences in video game history. Your relentless pursuit of the Master emerald has you rushing through the atmosphere dodging spikes, asteroids/space junk, and pitfalls, avoid getting crushed, lasered, missleled and spike mined, defeating 5 final bosses with I believe 58 hits before you run out of power and land on the top wing of a bi-plane that somehow regardless if you believe it or not, with or without a dense enough atmosphere of oxygen to support life and without burning up comes in and saves you from certain death and snags the Master Emerald without knowing what happens to your nemesis!!!huff-huff. Sorry I just get so excited thinking about it. I liked Sonic Adventure(battle) 1 and 2 but I wasn't too keen about switching between sonic and shadow in the end of the second. I didn't like having to fight a dinosaur with a space needle up his butt(no wonder he was mad) but then how do you top what you did earlier in Sonic3 & Knuckles. Unfortunately I have not played Sonic CD yet but always wanted to.

I'm probably the only one who's gonna say this, but the best Sonic game ever is easily Sonic Adventure 1 on the Dreamcast. Yes, Sonic Adventure is better than all of the original Sonic games on the Genesis. When I thought about it, sure Sonic 1, 2 and 3 were great games, they're classics and I still love them. But I had the most fun playing Sonic Adventure, it was the reason I bought a Dreamcast, I'm so glad I did.

Sonic 2, end of story. How is it not the best sequel if it came after the first game, and is the best game in the series?

Sonic 3 + Knuckles. I love all of the bonus games they added, the music is the best in the series, I like a lot of the levels and the shields were cool. Sonic 1-3 is like Mario 1, 3 and World. Each one took the last game and made it significantly better in pretty much every way imaginable.

Never played any of the 3D games, but in terms of the classic 2D lineup, I'd have to go with Sonic 2.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles = best game on the Mega Drive.

broken_bass_bin

I agree 100%. I always played Sonic 2 when I was about 4 years old with my sister (I was always Tails, she was Sonic). We always used to play split-screen multiplayer until we realized we could play co-op! EPIC! So about a billion years later, we got Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles (and Sonic 1, but that's unrelated :P). We played Sonic 3 & Knuckles and were completely blown away. The multiplayer sucked compared to Sonic 2, but the co-op got us playing for so long. We completed the game about 20 times (5 times with all Chaos Emeralds). Unfortunately, we never got all Super Emeralds, but we've always been trying. ;) But it was easily the best game on the Mega Drive.

Sonic 3 + Knuckles was the best of the series IMO. Introduced the best character in the Sonic Franchise and the platforming was top notch.
