Best Story Game...ever?

I'm looking for fantastic story games. I've played Alice, Half-Life, Jak3, Shadow of the Colosuss, and a few others. Are there any others? Any genre I guess, and any system, although I haven't found many good story games on the current gen, guess everyone is too focused on multiplayer.

Legacy of Kain series, Shenmue, Thief, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Red Faction: Guerilla, Metal Gear Solid 2...

Agreed, I only finished it because I couldn't stand closeing Oblivion gates after a while.

First and foremost, Heavy Rain. Mass Effect 1 and 2 have a good story as well and Half Life 2, whilst old, still tells a good tale.

Persona 4, It has by far the best characters I have ever seen in a video game.

Planescape Torment, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions.

I agree, great gameplay, but bad story. Generic and uninteresting IMO.

If you are into RPGs, I'd look into Final Fantasy 7 or 8. If you've never played 7 you should probably start there since its so popular, but I personally think 8 had a better story overall. Both of these games are absolute classics and they're pretty old also. But I'm telling you once you get used to the outdated graphics, it won't bother you at all because the stories are so awesome.

Alan Wake.

assassins creed 1&2, bioshock. some would say chronicles of riddick. also many find that the story for the gears series is decent. but theres a lot of back story there, placed in different novels.

Phoenix Wright, FFIV-VI-VII-VIII-X, Megaman X4, MGS, Kingdom Hearts

I would say; ICO, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), KOTOR 2.

You could even throw in the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games if you want, they have a great story to them (typical Star Wars).

1st of all i agree with all of them and 2nd the mass effect series has the most engrossing storyline i've ever played and even to this moment it makes me feel proud to be human and cat wait for the 3rd

but lol my 1 peev is ''half life 2 while still old'' idk how u ment that but i took it as graphics old and i think its graphics still ace most games out today it was top of the line in 2004 and still beats most in graphics today

Alan Wake has the most engrossing Story Mode I've played in a long time.

It's presented in episodic format, much like a big budget TV show with twists and cliffhangers etc. ( Think Lost when it was good).

The story and characters are top-notch with a movie worthy script. Not to mention its incredible gameplay-wise too. My 2010 GOTY and I've not even finished it yet.

I would recomend Beyond Good and Evil above all else. It's still the only game I have ever played with Characters that seemed truely alive which resulted in you actually caring about them. The story also has Genuine emotion (again, this is the only game I played that I feel I can say that with conifdence)

I would agree 100% about it being 2010 GOTY. Although I must say, the ending is a bit baffling. Can't wait for the sequel.

Metal Gear games always have a great story, but a game with a real story is Fallout 3, or Metro 2033. face_ripper

I thought Fallout 3's story wasn't so great. The characters and dialog were good but the overall story wasn't really.

Wind Waker and Shenmue would be my favourites... also Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit.

The Longest Journey. Everything else simply comes off as amateurish in comparison. Not merely a great "video game story", but a truly oustanding, wholly original story that can stand on its own compared to any other medium's greats. Backed by superb writing, believeable multi-dimensional characters and fantastic voice acting.

Mafia 1+2, KOTOR. Mass Effect.

Metroid Prime easily. One of the most powerful games I've ever played.

Definitely BioShock. For series, Metal Gear Solid and Kingdom Hearts.

Since no one else has picked Grim Fandango, you all deserve four year horrific journeys to get to Cloud Nine after you die....

This game's story is pure brilliance.

I don't know about KOTOR 2 though. I don't have a clue of what happened at the end.

Assassins Creed 2 - Betrayal, Revenge, Love, Trust, Deceit, Family, all these sum up the wonder that is AC2's magnificent story

FF7 Crisis Core - Such a sad story, but it's so interesting ! I highly reccomend :D

I forgot to mention Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64 .

XIII has a great story behind it.
