I've been into FPS games lately, but a lot of them don't have great stories. Please tell the ones with the best stories or at least interesting ones.

I already have the games The Conduit and Black. Thank you in advance.

mw2 is short, but has an excellent story... Same deal with cod4 and cod5... The rest of the series sucks when it comes to a storyline.

Bioshock of course, Star Wars: Republic Commando because it shows a unique perspective in the Star Wars universe, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, namely Shadow of Chernobyl (at least, I liked the story), and I guess some people enjoy Half Life's story.

edit: I guess the Halo series has a decent story, but that is mostly because of the back story and books (which I havn't read), so I don't know if that would be sorted under FPS game stories, but rather just Sci Fi universes.

Bioshock is undoubtedly in my first place, and then maybe Half-Life 2. I don't like the story in CoD games, but if you like adrenaline-rush and big set-pieces, you might like it.

Half Life and it's sequel. But you'll go through most of the series not knowing due to the way the story is told.

Bioshock, without a doubt. Simply presented, deep, gripping, amazingly told and makes you think- it ticked all the boxes I like in a video game narrative

BioShock, such an awesome story and atmosphere. The actual shooting kinda sucks, though.

Deus Ex has a brilliant storyline - an epic of political conspiracy, ethics and sabotage. It is very philosophical, and in my opinion (and many others) is the best story in any game. As a side note, PC Gamer put it at no.1 in their top 100. Yes, it's a controversial list, but my point still stands.

Bioshock, hands down. Not your traditional shooter, but it has one of the best atmospheres and I think it's one of the best game made in years.

The Deus Ex series has the best story ever seen in an FPS. Call of Juarez has some good story too. Obviously Half-Life 2, although we still have to figure out what's been going on and Valve won't tell us.

How can you call MW2's story excellent? It's a huge mess that doesn't make any sense. Half the time you don't know what's going on and the rest you are awestruck by the stupidity of the script. Russia invading the US on land? That alone kills Modern Warfare's any attempt at realism. Stories and first person shooters really don't match. But some shooters, such as Half-Life 2, have very strong narratives.

The Half Life series. Not only the story, but the way it's told and the way it unfolds. 8)

Bioshock had an excellent story and Modern Warfare 1 & 2's while short were very exciting and intense. My overall favourite would be the Halo games especially Halo 3 and ODST.

You got all the big, obvious ones covered, so I'm going to tell you to play The Darkness! That game is gonna be dirt cheap by now and even 2 years later is one of the best when it comes to storytelling. If you don't care about the having it be third-person, check out Max Payne as well, and that would be less than $5 by now.

I think it would be a pretty even tie between Bioshock and the Half Life Series.

I'm finishing the single player to MW2 today, 1 more chapter I think. I agree completely. Yes games require us to check our reality radars at the door often, but what I can decipher out of the storyline is insanely unbelievable and a mess. Yes there are many times the game is exciting and a few "awestruck" moments, but that doesn't mean the story's worth a damn.

Half Life and Metroid Prime. Both of those can have you reading for hours about their imaginative backstories. Halo is also pretty good too.

half - life 1 is the all time champ for storytelling (although is 12 years old) closely followed by its sequel. i felt that bioshock had a fairly loose story and that atmosphere was more its thing...
