The Mega CD version is by far and away the best version, it has better music quality and sound effects, tons of extra levels that are all very cool, new artwork, and a password save system. It's only feasible downfall is that it's missing some of the redesigned backgrounds of the SNES version (this only effects a few levels though)
The Mega Drive version was the original made so it's kind of the base version of the game
The SNES version had some of the backgrounds redesigned with very nice lighting effects and a few extra details, but it is in lower resolution than the other versions, as an effect of being ported from the Mega Drive (which has a higher resolution) the game is zoomed in on SNES and so gives you less see-able screen in front of you (this effects reaction time and causes 1 or 2 leaps of faith which weren't there before) most importantly in my opinion is that the SNES version is missing a level "intestinal Distress" (apparently due to problems fitting all the information on the cart)
Earthworm Jim 2
Unfortunately I don't know enough about the SNES version of the game to comment, from what I've seen the two versions actually have completely different backgrounds (not sure about the 32-bit versions of the game either)
If you're like me and prefer to have the version with the best music in it, check out: Earthworm Jim 1 for Sega CD and Earthworm Jim 2 for Sega Saturn.
Thanks for the info:)Earthworm Jim

This is the best suggestion out of everyones. The best version of EWJ 1 is far and away the SEGA CD version. It's not even a close competition with the 16bit systems
EWJ 2, on the other hand, is REALLY good on SNES. The first level is a nice blue and has a waterfall in it, plus way better music than the Genesis version...but it's even better on Sega Saturn. The music on both is incredible, but Saturn's version (which is also the most rare) is phenominal.
Personally I say stay away from the Genesis/MegaDrive version of EWJ 2. It's the worst.
So yea, EWJ = SegaCD...EWJ2 = Sega Saturn
but honestly...it's difficult to appreciate a game from the 16 bit era if you didn't play it DURING the 16 bit era.
I try to stress this to people who want to go back and relive the "classics." Sometimes it just doesn't work unless you were a gamer during that time and experienced the games when they came out. Because at the time these EWJ games were big, was the height of the platforming/mascot era...those days are long gone and no one really makes those types of games anymore.
People try to say games like SONIC CD are overrated because these kids weren't around to play it in 1993 when it came out...but it's not fair to pass that kind of judgement on something like that when you weren't around to enjoy it when it dropped.
So yeah, I hope you find the EWJ games as fun as we did growing up...

Usually, old games have the best versions in the PC versions.
This likely goes for EWJ 1 & 2 too, altho I can't confirm it and one may run into compatability issues.
As for 16-bit versions, I find EWJ 1 best on Genesis and EWJ 2 best on SNES.
But I don't see much point in bumping this thread.
TC probably already found out what he's been looking for...
actually, when it comes to old games it's usually a toss up. there are lot of terrible PC versions of consoles from the late 80's and early 90's (a good example would be Altered Beast for Ms-DOS) it wasn't until the mid 90's that PC's dominance in multiplatform games became unparalledUsually, old games have the best versions in the PC versionsnameless12345
[QUOTE="Heirren"]But the graphics, and animation, on the genesis version are better than the snes version.rilpas
can't say I noticed the animations.
all I can tell you is that the game is a port of the Sega CD version, but they upped the color count from 64 to 256
Just about all the animation based games were better on the genesis. I believe the games ran at a higher resolution, as well. Lion King and Jungle Book are two examples. I'm split in regards to pc versions. Sometimes they look better, but sometimes worse. Games in that era were created around the display devices involved. Playing an emulated genesis game on an LCD/monitor/plasma is a different visual experience than playing it on a CRT with scanlines/etc.[QUOTE="nameless12345"]actually, when it comes to old games it's usually a toss up. there are lot of terrible PC versions of consoles from the late 80's and early 90's (a good example would be Altered Beast for Ms-DOS) it wasn't until the mid 90's that PC's dominance in multiplatform games became unparalledUsually, old games have the best versions in the PC versionsrilpas
That's true, PC multiplats in the late 80s and early 90s were usually worse than the console versions because most PCs back then had no graphics card and sound card.
But once Sound Blaster and 2D and 3D accelerators came out, things changed much in favour of the PC.
