Do you like the Zelda series or Final Fantasy Series Better?

Me, this is a total tie. The answer is actually changing all the time, I guess it depends what the current flavor of the week, month, etc. is.

RIght now I would pick Final Fantasy cuz I'm currently playing 8 and 12 and I've played pretty much every one and loved them all. I only beat 3,4, and 7 and I never really even played 10 which from what i read is also amazing.

That's not to say that I'm gearing up to also go through either Ocarina or Twilight Princess soon. Then if I asked this question my answer would be Zelda. I've beaten most of the core Zeldas (I, II, OoT, WW, TP, Minish Cap, and ALTTP).

Call me fickel, but I'm really on the fence. Can anyone else give a difinitive answer?

It is safe to say that these are my Top 2 series of all time.

Ocarina of Time is a masterpiece and my favorite game BUT the following games have made no improvement in the formula because of the inability to surpass OoT in terms of story or gameplay there's is no point of even trying subsequent Zeldas,(though the portable ones have been one better than the other), just playing TP irritates me it's tottally fan oriented and the conservative way that nintendo traits franchises tottally pisses me off and on the other hand several Final Fantasies are masterpieces while the rest are still excellent games (imo there is an exception which I'll not name), still I can't speak of XII and X because I have yet to play them

You can't really compare the two of them. Neither is trying to do things like the other, one is an action adventure rpg, the other series generally follows a jRPG flavor. Both have great games and not so good ones with their name attached. Why do you have to start an arguement between fanboys by asking such a question? Obviously when you ask that question about such popular games you are going to get a bunch of people that rattle on with "Final Fantasy is teh bestest!!!" and a bunch of people that say the same about the Zelda series.

Geez, I was just thinking about it and wondering what other people liked better. Why do people on these forums take things so seriously and over analyze to death. Why waste time on a long reply to just 8itch and moan. If you are going to cry then don't post.

I'm reading your post, and it just doesn't make sense. Frankly, it has nothing to do with this thread--and it seems like you just want to cause problems.

Anyways to answer the thread title, both series really give you a great sense of exploration. It's difficult to decide which is better, but I think the Zelda series has a much richer atmosphere in terms of exploration: and that is everything I look for in games.

FF series for me. Not every game is a gem, but they change the formula every time around and still come out with a great game.

Still a big Zelda fan as well.

Nah, that's like saying The Beatles and Bob Dylan are overrated.

Anyways, I have to say I like Final Fantasy more than Legend of Zelda. I've played every Final Fantasy in the series and All Zelda's except for Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons, but unlike Final Fantasy I haven't played through all of them. Zelda is a good series, I thought TP was something truly special, but I'm still going with Final Fantasy as the better series.

Zelda = better gameplay, FF = better stories. I dont really wanna choose but i think the FF series is more worthwhile. However great Zelda games are they eventually end and usually alot sooner than FF games. I think FF should win because of how much longer you can play them.

Final Fantasy, although the newer games have protaganists that irritate the hell out of me, like the obnoxious Titus I find more Final Fantasy games enjoyable then Zelda games.
Only Zelda Game's I've liked are those for the Gameboy and Ocraina of Time.

This is a really hard choice. I've only owned 2 zelda games and final fantasy games. Zelda: OOT was really memorable, and I had a lot of fun playing it. FFX was really 'epic' for me.. great story, characters, music. Im gonna say both. :P

I've played more FF games then Zelda. I've only played Wind Waker and TP, while I've played nearly all the FF games, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, and 12. So it's hard for me not to say FF. Even though I loved both Wind Waker and TP.

no, i agree. you can't really compare them. it's not like they're similar designs or both from the same genre. he's/she's not b!tching or moaning, it's a good point.

i guess you can say which one you prefer, but they're not very similar types of games.

i do think there is more 'game' in zelda though. FF is prettier and has some great interactive stories, but i prefer the design of zelda. i try not to compare them though.

I'd say Zelda, based on both series overall, the Zelda games seem to be consistently better, imo.

oh, that's a tough one.

well, if we're talking about NES/SNES titles, it's pretty close. FF2 is still one of the best games of all time, but A Link to the Past is easily the best Zelda (and one of the best games for the SNES, period.)

However, in recent years I think FF has pulled ahead, while Zelda is content to do the same thing over and over.

Overall, I have to go with the Final Fantasy series.

Twilight Princess had the superior story in my opinion. It was the most mature Zelda game ever. The only immature thing about it was the annoying Postman. Gameplay wise, it was awesome except for the bosses. Even Zant and Gannondorf were easy.
You dont like it because its fan oriented? So... making somethign specifically for fans is bad now? o.O

I also loved Majora's Mask, it had everything Oot did and more. Apart from the story of course.

Mega-man, no question. The Master Sword ain't got nothin on the X-Buster.

Link can deflect using his sword and sheild. Link would win. Im not just picking my favorite character either, Im serious, Link would win.

So you're saying that Link can deflect a fully powered X-Buster attack with his sword and sheid? Hmm... Maybe the Master Sword could, but that Hylian shield is just plain metal. Now the Mirror Shield maybe. But a fully powered Mega-man, with all of his attafcks, no question.

My orginal reply was a bit of a joke anyway... The original poster was using that question as if it couldn't be ansered or disputed, which of course, it easliy can. I do agree with the above posters in that you really can't compare the two; it's too broad of a qquestion. You can answer the question as which one you like more; as an opinion and personal taste. But it's not specific enough to actually compare the two. It'ld be like comparing an FPS to a point-click adventure game. There's no way to say which one is better, only which one you yourself like more.

In fact, almost any form of entertainment, it always boils down to subjectiveness. There's no real way to say which is better; sure there are reviews give higher scores to games that are 'better', but these are just based on the consensus of what a 'good' game should be. But whether or not a person enjoys the game comes from a personal level(or at least should). So you could have somone who thinks a game that is generally not well recieved is the best game of all time. it's all subjective. There are no real good or bads, only personal opinion.

For my answer...I don't know. I would choose FF, but they have really let me down with the last 3 or 4 games they put out. But would I rather play FF5 than ALttP? Any day. Hmmm. still probably have to go with FF. I'm an RPG lover to the core.

I'm on the fence, as I'm a fan of both series and most of the entries in both series, so I'd probably have to give it a tie. My top 5 favorites combined from both series would go like this :

1) The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past

2) Final Fantasy 1

3) The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time

4) Final Fantasy VI

5) Final Fantasy VII

do people often compare these games out of a shared connection with lord of the rings? is it because there are swords, magic and elf and golbin-type creatures in them?

The Final Fantasy series has always had the upper hand over LoZ in the graphics and audio department, but, The Legend of Zelda series gets my vote, for it's consistently amazing game-play.

No comparison, really, because Zelda is not an RPG series (no matter how many times anyone says it, it just isn't).

However, Zelda is my favorite series, and I have no love for FF, so Zelda.
