Yeah since the Game Boy Color I have been a Nintendo guy but I got a big gift card for Christmas and it is only to Gamestop(wish it was a more genreal card but not complaining) and I saw that you can get a Refubrbished Xbox for $50. Now the person I talked to said it came with all the cables and a controller so I will be set there. I will have $10 left and am planning to get KOTOR(Big Starwars fan, never been able to play this game) and I have a relative that will let me borrow Halo for a while. But here are my Questions.

1. Whats the max resolution of the Xbox? I have heard 720p but I thought it was only 480p?

2. Is XBOX Live still running? It would be fun to get online.

3. Did the original Xbox have the problems the newer one did with having all the RROD(Think that is right word)?

4. Anything else major I should know/get before buying this one?

Thanks For Any Help!

1)480 P which still isn't that bad 2) For Halo 2 only.. 3) No 4) KOTOR and KOTOR 2 are both great games but besides them and Fable and Morrowind they are the only RPGS on the system so it might be a better idea to just buy KOTOR and KOTOR 2 on the PC if you have to have a lot of RPGS

The original Xbox is a good system. If possible try to let the EB/Gamespot staff let you check the date of manufacture on the bottom of the console. Before you buy the Xbox. Try to buy one with the closest date to August 2005 (Last time Xbox was made) Avoid getting stuck with a Xbox with a Thompson DVD-Rom drive. Which was in the early models of Xbox. These were prone to up and dying. Disc read error.

Other then that happy Xboxing. I also had a Nintendo Stance and Mircosoft Stance. Currently on a Sony Stance. (I'll Xbox/Xbox 360 again)

I had 100 original Xbox games the most for any system I've ever owned for any system.

something not many people know about is that if you go to the xbox dashboard you can force 720p resolution. most people are under the false assumption that 480p is the max resolution, but in order to utilize the higher resolution you need component cables otherwise it will frame up in high action sequences. i say both from experience, so you cant say it aint so.

oh and megavideogamer is right about the cd drive, i bought mine microsoft refurbed and it was remanufactured in late 2004, they had put the new cd drive in it and ive never had problems, my box has at least 4000 hours of run time in my house, cause i left it running 24/7 when i was addicted to fable:the lost chapters. as it so happens i was the last one of my friends to get an xbox and mine has lasted at least 3-4 times longer problem free than any of my friends xbox's. you can tell the differences in the drives when they read discs, the older ones are a lot louder, they sound like theyre struggling to read the discs, the new ones are almost silent.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is a good pick, Jade Empire, Fable, Crimson Skies, Halo/Halo2 are obvious must-buys, mechassaults are a lot of fun.

sony > microsoftx_Martyr_x

Great. That sure helps answer his question.

Just be aware of which controller you are getting, the "Duke" or the later version, most people don't like the Duke because of their ridiculous size, although I kindof prefer them because I have big hands, so..

Yeah if they give me a choice I will look for latest version. And to zelda450, I will look at controller to. It probably will come with the "Duke" though.

1: The Xbox can output up to 1080i technically, but practically, most games will be limited to 480p with the occasional 720p-capable game. 2: Original Xboxes can still connect to XBL, and I'm pretty sure it's not just Halo 2. (If it is just Halo 2, I'm going to be mad as hell since I have an XBL subscription just for old Xbox games like Steel Battalion: Line of Contact and Operation Flashpoint: Elite.) 3: About the closest issue I can think of would be the very early Xboxes that had Foxlink power supplies that could become unreliable over time as the AC socket was stressed. MS issued replacement power cords to reduce the risk of a house fire as a result of PSU faultiness. Even then, it wasn't quite as vocal or widespread as the RRoD woes of its successor. 4: Try to get an Xbox made some time between 2003 and early 2005, IIRC. Anything later and you run a big risk of getting a 1.6 Xbox, which can't render some games properly due to an Xcalibur video encoder (Panzer Dragoon Orta in 480p, for example). Anything too early will probably have the crappy Thomson drive rather than a Philips or Samsung, as well as being more likely to have one of the infamous Foxlink PSUs.

Thanks for all the help guys. I picked up a Xbox today. It came with one of the smaller controllers which feel fine(not as good as Gamecube yet) and I am enjoying KOTOR and can't wait to play Halo. I purchased the 1 year warranty so that is nice.

Yea RallySport 2, and Forza are good racing games. I liked Amped 2 and Doom 3 as well. Oh and get Chronicles of Riddick. :)
