Best Buy, Gamestop and other retail stores that have game consoles on display always have that one broken controller. Either broken analog sticks that work on way or dont work at all. Or an X button that doesnt work. Even with the amount of people coming in and out and using the controllers, I find it hard to believe these things just break.

I was just wondering, is this due to wear and tear or improper use? Ive taken apart console controllers and theres nothing inside that can really degrade. Its just a piece of rubber that makes contact with a piece of circuit board. Do people drool in these controllers or slam them into the holder?

The way I use my controllers, I cant imagine them ever breaking even if I played non-stop 24/7 for years.

In part it is the amount of use they see. Mostly though it is people treating it far too roughly because they didn't have to buy it so they don't care about other people's property.

TL;DR: People are self-centered.

I approve this statement. I remember when PS1 first came out and video rental stores started carrying CD based games. Every 3 out of 5 games I rented back then were so scratched they wouldn't play at all. How can someone do that much damage to a game in five days? It looked like they rented it, took it home and did some "wax on, wax off" on their driveway, then brought it back to the store.

Mostly, but analog sticks are still made of cheap material. They all lose a little of that "snap back" after a while. I don't remember ever having a problem with the N64 controller.

Odd, I did have that problem with the N64 controller. The analog stick or whatever you want to call it wore out to the point of it not even working anymore. On topic, its just people treating the controller roughly.
